Don't know if this has been discussed or not. I haven't seen it.
I have an Egg Bag I got from Tannens. It's very nice, but seems to be a thick wool. I've noticed that Gazzo and others seem to have Egg Bags made of thinner material. Is this significant? Should I look for another Egg Bag and should I avoid ordering an Egg Bag through the mail since I won't know what material it's made of? Thanks.

There are a few different types of egg bags out there. I believe that the one on the Gazzo DVD is a Malini-style egg bag. These are, by design, made to look very thin and "delicate" and consequently are more useful with lighter objects (such as a real blown egg). I use a Malini bag, and the effect kills, because there's no seemingly possible way the bag (which is the size of a glove) could be "hiding" or endlessly producing an egg.
I have attended Denny's (of Denny & Lee Magic Studio) Malini egg bag lecture, and he carries the Malini bags made by Danny Tong and the Legacy egg bag from Lynetta Welch of Fabric Manipulations. I also got 2 Malini-style bags from my local magic dealers made by Mikame and distributed by MAK magic I believe. Lots can be done with the Tannen-style bag. Stevens Magic Egg Bag Teach-in DVD covers several styles of bags -- I'm not sure if it covers the Tannen egg bag, but it's a great overview.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind when (and increasingly <if>) I can get around to actually buying stuff again!

Although I prefer to use a thinner Malini Egg Bag and do in most indoor venues, I prefer to use the thicker (cotton or wool – I am not sure) Mardo Egg Bag outdoors or in places where heat and humidity is a problem. The thinner Malini Egg Bag sticks to my hands and becomes difficult to work with when my hands get sweaty. Here in the Midwest the humidity can get to be a real problem in the summer.

The Malini bag put out by Brooke was of the same material as the Gazzo bag is now,,,the original size was a bit larger than the final run of bags Brookie sold. Tannens were well known for "borrowing" Brooke items, so I am suprised their bag material differs.
The Malini routine as put out by Brooke is identical to Gazzo`s also the handling so this type of bag sells the illusion better than a thicker material. Ken |

Oddly enough, I have a "Mardo" bag, but the Mardo routine I kept out of my <old> Tannen's catalog (anybody remember when they used to put extra stuff at the back of the catalog?) is actually difficult to work with that bag.
Maybe it's just me.

Actually, looking at the routine again, he says to use a "Sterling" egg bag.
Is this something different?

Mandrakeo1:
According to this reference site below, the Sterling bag is a Mardo-type bag (as is the Tarbell and Albini per this web site). It sounds like you've got just the right bag. http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/magegg.htm

Martin Lewis has a great routine with the Mardo egg bag, it's on the Stevens Egg Bag video. He also put out a video with just his routine, but for the money I'd recommend buying the Stevens video so you can get several different performances.
