I'm new to Contact Juggling and I find I'm a visual learner. Learning by example works better for me than reading from a book. I've got "Contact Juggling" by James Ernest and the superb performance of Michael Moschen's PBS special "Moschen in Motion".

I'd love to hear your recommendations for more DVDs.

If you can, don't just post titles, please share why you are making this recommendation (great teaching style, fantastic moves, etc).

Right now, the only contact juggling dvd I have is called The Visual Encyclopedia of Contact Juggling: Volume 1, Contact Basics by Matt Olsen. Bought it because it was the only one that my local magic shop had. Turns out to be a pretty good dvd. It shows quite a few of the basic moves and tells you how to do them. Even gives you some hints on selecting your first ball. Just practicing the moves from this first dvd (there are 4 in the series) will keep you quite busy. There is a LOT to learn here for the first time student to this art form.

If you hop over to

they have a massive video database with excellent tutorials on how to learn the moves, not to mention submissions by the members of their own style of CJ.

*edit* forgot to mention 'In Isolation', a DVD that came out last year. It has some of the better Contact Jugglers doing some really smooth stuff and a good video tutorial for lots of the basic moves.

*2nd edit* I've just found this:

He's putting up youtube tutorials that are all done with a comedy edge, and I must say I do enjoy his sense of humour..

Thanks all - I was wondering the same thing. Can anyone give an opinion on "Contact Juggling" featuring Tyas Franz?

I heard that Contact by Tyas Franz was pretty bad. It's very short. I don't have it myself, but from what I've heard, it's not too good. Smile

I know you mentioned not from books, but this one is really excellent!!

Highly recommended for multiball work...

You Tube really has become the best resource for contact juggling. There are even a lot of tutorials going up.

I like In Motion with Michael Moschen. In Isolation is supposed to be nice.

Here are some of my contributions.

Contact Juggling part one, don't know about two... I particularly enjoy the section that one is supposed to practice to, rather like a toothbrushing timer really, an indication of a good number of times to practice a particular bit. It's put out by Flaming Sparrow Press.
