Here is a DIY boombox that uses the same chasis as the Virtual Soundman Tabletop PA:

http://www.sincityhackers.com/wiki/index......boom_box

This costs only about $50 to make, which includes an enhanced sound trick.

Any creative gear heads out there know how to add in a wireless (preferably built in) mic to it?

Though it won't be of the same quality as the VSM, it won't cost $649 either.

I see this design as originating with VSM, and I see this 'hacker' project as simply ripping off that design.

Silverking,

Actually that design was out prior to the VSM boombox, just do a simple search and you will see many boomboxes with IPOD ports and IR remote controls. They have been out for years.

I was recently at the mall and saw a massage chair with a IPOD port and IR remote. Go to http://www.sharperimage.com, you can see many products. Or check out this link:

VSM and their team actually modiffied a boombox with their control system.

P.S.
Karol thanks for sharing, I which I was an engineer.

Not a problem!

Hopefully someone here has the technical know how to embed wireless mic.

I can't imagine it's that difficult in the scheme of things.

VSM took the time and spent the money to market the device directly to magicians. Now on a magic web board the hacker equivilent has surfaced.

I'm not judging folks who decide to render the hack as their own, but when I say it's a rip off of a device ALREADY marketed to and for magicians, I stand by that statement simply because it's true.

Silverking,

The IPOD boomboxes such as the one from VSM have been around for years, but they don't have the bells & whistles we magicians need.

One of the first ones was from Bose, it predates the VSM box by years:

http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalo......JS317WHT

I know some guys at the Magic Castle and some magicians that swear by it.

Then we also have these boomboxes with remotes:

http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalo......SI726SIL

http://www.harmankardon.com/product_deta......;sType=C

Honestly I can post about a dozen products. The last product even has a RF remote.

Additionally the link Karol Kool provided us at:
http://www.sincityhackers.com/wiki/index......boom_box

Well, Karol Kool just discovered it on the internet, I seriously doubt the author of that Wiki performs magic or has even heard about us.

Please be sure to not call the ideas and products from "Sin City Hackers" as "HACKING"...it's called "Modding". Gothicke taught us that.

Perhaps the following could somehow be incorporated cheaply:

Camcorder wireless mic and receiver
Baby monitor hack
Hobbytron FM transmitter/receiver

There is probably plenty of room inside the boombox unit.
