Interested in the average depth of a ringneck dove?

These trays list themselves as 2" thick each:

But the dove I got last week must be about 3" in depth.

These trays don't require scrunching doves into them, do they?

The trays are standard depth. You'll find that when the dove is inside, it pulls it's legs up against it's body like airplane landing gear and they settle down. It won't scrunch up your dove.

I have had doves that were too large for an effect. One rather tight-fitting Balloon to Dove was retired from my show because it was simply too small for me to feel comfortable with the way my dove fit.

One way to tell if your bird is too big for an effect is to gently put the bird in the prop and bring it together slowly, like you were going to close it. Watch the dove the entire time. Listen to the dove.

The dove should act and sound normal in her breathing. If she opens her mouth at all or makes strange noises or struggles when the effect is closed or nearly closed, you probably have a dove that is too large for the effect. Use a smaller dove. Some of the males get pretty big.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Good point Autumn. There are large doves. I have one that I can't use in my sleeve. My comment was generalities. Most birds will fit but you're right about the males being larger.

My dove has been on Tony Clark's DVD diet, and is a little slimmer this week.

It must have become a little porker while living at the pet store Smile
