Question guys,
I used to had my own TV Shows, running for 30min at prime time, it was run for more than 80 episodes, at that time the calling for gig was great, I even do 3 shows a day, and up until 5 shows a week, and little by little the chart went down that was two years ago, now since my TV show has ended I make public appearance with my TV Commercials which run only for few second and aired few times a day and also appear as guest speaker at few TV talk show, I reached the celebrity status in here and so far me & my Management never bother to taking care of the Marketing of the Show, i.e. the cold calling, show Booking, show marketing and others direct activity that solicited for more shows We just let the ball rolling, waiting for the Show Organizer or Event Organizer to calling my Management and asking me to perform; now in average I only does minimum 1 show a month Don’t get me wrong, I am 100% Professionals Hypnotist/Hypnotherapies/Mentalist beside from doing Show, I earn my living by operating my own Hypnotherapy Clinic, now I had 3 other Hypnotherapies working in the Clinic, I also Do in house Training for Major Company and Group sessions Programs But The entertainer inside me missed doing Shows My question is how can I create more demands for my Show? How can I get more Bookings? If you were me and at my position, what would you do to generate more Shows? Can you guys out there help me out please? Thank you for your kind Reply http://www.romyrafael.com |

On:13, mesmer wrote: Romy, This is one of my favorite topics... building business. Let me first say that what I’m about to recommend worked for me. I don't know if it can work for you. My thinking is that it’s worth a try. Based on what you've said in your post you have performed at literally hundreds of events and for a huge number of client's... yes? Well there's your answer. Take advantage of your celebrity status. Contact all of those wonderful people who hired you in the recent past and in a thoughtful and planned way, ask for their help. That’s right; ask them to help you to find new business. Now before I loose you and anyone else who may read this seemingly unorthodox way of thinking… let me explain what I mean. Think about how people who see you perform behave towards you before and after a performance. Don’t they want to approach you, touch you and get to know you? Sure they do. This is one of the benefits, and to some, the curse of being an entertainer. People want to know and be seen with the entertainer. It’s a status and self-esteem phenomenon. So make it work to your advantage. Now this whole marketing concept is based on you being a seasoned and talented performer... more than just a fair or good performer. That you have treated people with kindness and respect, that you did the best job possible for the people you are going to contact and where possible you provided your clients with added value. Romy, in no way am I suggesting that you appear weak and hungry or that you are hurting for business... Not at all... not a good idea. I’m suggesting that you need to figure out a new approach to talking about your career as an entertainer and your show or performance. An example for me was when on two occasions because of bouts with cancer I had to start my corporate Trade Show and meeting business all over again. Once in 1995 and again in 1998. IMPORTANT!!! I did not use my health issues as a pity party. I don’t think I ever mentioned it. Did some know why I was absent for about a year each time? Probably, but I chose not to use it... I was not looking for sympathy... I wanted to perform and rebuild my business. What I did do was to create a new show and used this new concept for a new show theme as my reason for calling. I contacted every one who had hired me during the previous three years and with spoke great enthusiasm and energy. I explained that I had a new idea and wanted to share it with them and anyone else who would allow me to talk with them about it. I mentioned that I had a terrific time-sensitive special pricing package and a few other carrots that I knew would perk their interest. This next point is really important to the success of this marketing strategy. Do not overlook any one for whom you worked. I don’t care if it was a kid’s birthday party, a corporate event or a walk-around job. Everyone knows someone who owns a company that holds an event. Everyone has a friend, a brother or sister, a father or mother who has contacts at some organization or company. The key to this idea is that people want to help other people; especially entertainers and celebrities. Think of how after helping you to make a contact the great story they will have to tell their peers and friends. So that’s the gist of my great idea. Try it… you’ll like it. And please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss this further. I'll be delighted to be a sounding board for you. Love from AntonZ |

Your big mistake was that you stopped actively marketing yourself. You let everyone come to you. This is the easiest way to have a steady decline in bookings. You have to contact people. Do you think the big names in magic just sit around waiting for people to come to them?. No. Criss Angel still has to pitch things to A&E. David Copperfield still has to contact theatres to book performance time (okay...he has a team that does that, but you get the point). Don't totally rely on you 15 minutes of fame. Use that 15 minutes to network and to keep networking.

Mesmer...I am honestly at a loss for words. Maybe it has to do with the language barrier, but I may be having a hard time understanding exactly what you want.
You have said that you are a 100% professional. To me this means that you know how to market yourself (at least somewhat). You have said that you did have a marketing team. Use the same principles of marketing. You may have to promote yourself to somebody different (festivals?) than what you have done before with the therapy part. Look at exactly what you did before and fill in the blanks with your performance show. You already have a system in place. Use it. |

Maybe so I’m just confused, how come in a situation like this, i.e. No Competition and the market is HUGE, I rarely do a show? After my TV show has ended, I often do seminar, training, and other Hypnotherapy related program and rarely do a stage show, even tough the Speaker market in Indonesia is saturated but somehow the demands is big Is there a difference between marketing a seminar & Training with marketing a show? Is marketing a show is an exact science? Is there a Holy Grail that I must search to be able to boost my show? |

There shouldn't really be much of a difference except that you are promoting a different product/service, and that your target market might be different.
I can't even begin to suggest what would work in Indonesia. I have never been there or even close to there. But like I said before, you have already successfully sold yourself once before. You know (or your team knows) what works. You must though keep active in marketing yourself and that means calling around to festivals, theatre companies, corporations and so on. If you look at most successful American celebrities you'll find that they have a knack of "reinventing" themselves. This makes them seem fresh and new and exciting. They still capitalize on their celebrity status, but still put in a lot of work (which we never see any of it but the end product...unless they make a special video of how the did it). Quick example. Christina Aguilera. She began as a small time singer doing local gigs around her state. She then auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club and got on that as an actres/singer. After that ended, a few years later she released her first major record with a very sweet and teen-pop sound. Her next major release was totally different. Her songs were more "dirty", sexual and mature. A lot of shock value there. Her newest release tends toward her original beginnings with jazz songs. But in order to help with all these releases she has to do promotional things like interviews and appearances. |

Well, not as simple as that. But it is a start.
Also, do a lot of reading here on the Café. Do a search for marketing and promotion...especially here in the Tricky Business section. You'll find loads of information on these topics and hopefully you'll find something you can use. The basic thing you must answer in any market is: How can I let people know I exist? People have short memories so one must keep "reminding" thier market continually in many different ways. Through advertising, direct marketing, tv appearances, interviews (tv and in newspapers/magazines)etc. The hard part is doing these things the best way. That can take practice. Purchasing a marketing tutorial might be of use to you like http://www.thedean.net/ |

I am also suggesting that you Re-Invent something about yourself, your act, your talk... whatever it is. I only used the personal marketing example because you seem to be in a Show "Business" rut and I wanted to let you know that I and others for a variety of reasons also experience this from time to time. If you personally or through your team, continuously market you and whatever product you offer with both old and new ideas with your current and/or new data base you will succeed. Personally I find that the personal touch works best. AntonZ |

Do a seach about recency. You have created a brand for yourself, now you need to keep pushing it in front of people.
Buy the book "Selling the Invisible". It's a marketing book that has a coincidental title for magic. It's in English, but the reading isn't too heavy. Joe |

CONGRATULATIONS and WELCOME Brother!
Certainly SUCCESS is not as much of a "Science" (although there is some repeatable science involved) as it is a 'process', dare I say a "LIFESTYLE". To the degree you LIVE it (which MEANS you DO IT!) it will permeates your result life! Like swimming… the more you “get into it”, the more immersed you will get. The good news is, along with what Anton and some of the others her are willing to share, you do NOT need to be an "expert"! You simply must be willing to DO something towards te successful attainment of your desires and dreams! => Will we always do it "perfectly" and every time? Nope! => Will we enjoy more success RESULT of we just take massive amount of ACTION regardless of how confident or good we are at our marketing yet? YES! Simply put, ACTION = RESULTS! Ok, not "all" of it will be instantly “astounding” results if you are guessing or just doing 'what you can' while you learn a grow, but SOMETHING is ALWAYS BETTER THAN NOTHING! ACTION will out perform ignorance ANY DAY of the week! – Take ACTION! Do "nothing" while waiting for the "Magic Bullet" and you are CERTAIN of the result... NOTHING! As I always say: "Something Terrible Happens If You Don’t Take ACTION... NOTHING!" - THAT you can be certain of! If you TAKE ACTION while you are “learning”, testing, applying more n’ more action strategies, you WILL get more n’ more positive RESULTS! This place is riddled with LOTS of examples of individuals with little more than DESIRE and their willingness to take massive ACTION and they achieve real actionable RESULTS! “The KEY to success lies in the fact simple fact that SUCCESSUL PEOPLE have formed the habit of DOING the things that UN-Successful People are un-willing to do… regardless of how they FEEL!” - Success is a VERB! - It Requires ACTION! - It Doesn’t Matter How you FEEL! …do it ANYWAY! So, for today (YES, RIGHT NOW!) choose and then DO SOMETHING! => Will you get more n’ more RESULTS as you grow and learn more and better marketing insights and experiences to apply to you success? Of Course You Will! BUT, there is no good reason to wait… do something NOW! Success is 110% LUCK! - Labor - Under - Correct - Knowledge … NOTICE the word “Labor” is fist on the list! Then get more correct knowledge as you grow on… dig? I hope that helps some! I am at your service and in HIS Service, Book em’ Deano! <>< PS Glad you are here and ASKING good questions... now go take ACTION as well and report your RESULTS! We’ll HELP if you are willing to go DO something and then share your results… we can then help tweak and support the “PLAN”, but the ACTION is all you bud! - Whoo Hoo!
