I just got a webcam. I think it could be great for when magicians talk on line. We could show each other our moves, tricks or help each other out with them visually.
With me being deaf I crave interacting with other magicians. I mean I have magician friends who I hang out with form time to time or can chat with them in IM's. But a good magic chat is hard to find right now. I'd also like to see just how useful a webcam can be for brainstorming, sharing or helping each other with magic. Imagien you need help wiht a card move or something. Someone can help be turing on their camera and show them how to hold the deck or what ever needs to be changed. Back when I first got my first computer and the Internet it was like a new world for me to be able to communicate with people other then face to face. So I found a chat room script that allow you to have webcam chats too. You can chat in there like a normal chat room and you can "go live" with video and/or audio (I can't stand the audio.. ). If you wan to chat with me to try this out I'll be on from time to time over the next few days. Never know when but I'll check back every now and then. This is just a freeware version of the chat. If it works out I'll get the full version. I miss chatting with magicians. So stop in if you want to try it out. I put a password on it. It's not much protection but this is just a trial run. The passowrd is thumbtip. BTW - You don't need a webcam to chat. It's at: http://www.magicjax.com/newsite/chat.html Ron Jaxon |

I've spoken to a few of you in the chat and it's a lot of fun. One of them (I'll let him mention who it was if he wants to. He's quite known) chatted with me for about an hour. I performed my latest trick for him. He performed some amazing card magic for me. I showed him a move I came up with and wondered if he'd ever seen it done before (He has... ). So the chat was very fun and infomative. The video allowed us to really share our stuff and ideas.
There's another cool feature. You can watch, save and share youtube videos. So if you are talking about some performance and there's a youtube video of it. During the chat you can share that with other members. Or save them on your profile so others can check them out. I have a couple of youtube videos of me performing in my profile on the chat. Now for you hearing people you can use your microphone to chat. I obviously wouldn't be able to join in to that but you can if you want to. Another thought just came to mind. I or others could put on a sort of webcam lecture. That could be interesting. Anyway, stop in and check it out sometime. I'll be in there for a while right now. Ron Jaxon |

Maybe I should set up a regular time to have a chat sometime. The only problem is there are magicians from all over the world here on the Café so one time won't work (My evening will be someones morning).
I'll figure one out anyway. Maybe I'll schedule one and teach a couple of tricks in it to help things rolling. I've already though about someday having a video lecture in there. But for now I'll just put together a coulpe of tricks to teach. It'll be a good way to test the ability to teach a trick in there for when I actually do a webcam lecture. It might be fun. It's been a lot of fun with the ones I've chatted with so far. Ron Jaxon |

I've been having a ball. Thanks to all those who have stopped in. I've spent a few hours talking to the likes of Luke Dancy, Kyle, Sean Bogunia and a few others have stopped in.
I've tried the audio. Obviously I can't hear when I'm being talked to but it was a big help when I was teaching someone else something. I'd just explain and show how to do it. They her and see me. They have to type back to me but it's still pretty helpful. Sean Bogunia is goig to try his "Dragon Speak and Type" the next time we chat in there. I don't know if it'll work yet but if it does it'll be the first I'm I've been bale to have a real time conveersation in years without anyone having to type anything. Tomorrow night (Monday) I'm going to host a chat. This is nothing official or anything. But I'll be in there at about 8:00 Eastern time for a couple of hours. I'll stick around longer if people show up. I'm hoping some of you might be able to stop in and get familiar with the room. Because I'm thinking about having a sort of webcam lecture/chat next week (Maybe next week. Depends on how it goes tomorrow night). I'll pick a couple of tricks (Maybe one or two of my E-books) and teach how to do them and maybe one or two others. I'd just like to explore the possibilities with this wecam chat. Maybe I'm overly excited about this because I can't talk on the phone and this is the next best thing. But it's been very fun and informative this past week in there. Hope to see some of you in there tomorrow. I'll be in there for a while tonight too. So stop in if you're browsing around. PS - you don't need a webcam to join or to see others on their camera. The two tricks I decided to share this evening are:
Smokin' Restored - I don't know if I'll stick with that name but that's what I'm calling it right now. A few years ago when I released my Outsmokin E-book I mentioned I was working on a version of the same gimmick for a torn and restored cigarette. I haven't realeased it anywhere yet. So this will kind of be the first time I'll be sharing it in any kind of public way. What's unique about this torn and restored cigarette is the fact that you can tear off either end of the cigarette (butt end or the "tip" end). You can end it in many ways including giving the barrowed cigarette back to the spectator. As in most cases some ending will require sleight of hand but I'll share some simple ways to accomplich that too. Untouched - You might have read about this. Many are waiting for me to release it as an addidion to my Infinity Loop E-book. I'm going to show how to do it tonight in the chat. You'll see why it's kind of hard to teach it with just words (As in an E-book). So my webcam will make it easier to explain. One note about the chat. As you know I'm deaf so I can't hear if you use the Microphone feature. I'll use my Mic. as I explain and you're free to use your mic too. But keep in mind that if you want to say anthing to me it'll have to be typed in the chat. There's another raeson I wan to try this out tonight. I'm worried that when my DVD comes out my speech won't be understandable enough. I can speak well enough but I know my speech slurs sometimes. People that know me say that they hear it a little at first but once they get to know me they don't even notice it anymore. So let me know if you can't understand anyhting I say while I'm teaching.
