I'm going to build two tables:
1) A tray-jack stand table for street magic 2) A suitcase table for other shows With the suitcase table, I'm interested if anyone can offer advice on the mechanism that holds the upper half of the suitcase table in place once it is unfolded? With the tray-jack stand, I plan to build it out of 1 by 2s and 1/4" plywood. However, can anyone give me the rough (or not so rough) dimensions of a normal tray-jack stand table? Thanks. Jim

I can only give advice on the suitcase table.
We have built tables with a very simple mechanism. We use two short steel rods. There´s just a hole on each side on proper height. Once you unfold the table, you just insert the steel rods in the holes and the upper half rests on them. Since the rods are very short, there´s no fear of them bending.

My suitcase table has a sliding door bolt latch that can be purchased from any hardware store.

I think Frank Starsini is using an old keyboard stand, you may want to PM him.
I custom built my own table out of a teak wood tray and copper pipe. It has a very magical look, without looking like the cheesy table tops with wells.

Thank you for the help, guys. I really like the idea of using off the shelf hardware for the suitcase table support.
For the tray stand table, I think I'm going with a table top that is 18" by 30". How does that sound? Jim
