We have just had a great day at the 2007 meeting of The United Kingdom Escape artists, here in Northampton. Although there were only a few of us this time, due to illness and other previous engagements, we all were able to spend time together, sharing ideas, showing off our restraints and learning to to get out of them!
The day started with the obligatory coffee and biscuits and then the talking started. We heard all about a brand new handcuff/prisoner restraint brought along by handcuff expert Alex Nichols. Chris Gower brought his usual selection of scarce and unusual restraints, and I had a table with some of my Houdini collection, photos and gaffed locks. We then had a visit from the press! The local newspaper interviewed us, took some pictures, and surprised us when they started filming with a professional video camera. They will be showing the results on their website very soon. What a great new idea in journalism! I'll give you a link as soon as it is available. Of course they filmed an escape, and it was Weasel Dandaw getting out of some Hiatt handcuffs. And he did it very well! Also on the video, Kondini shocked the camera lady when he pushed a 5 inch nail up his nose. Hopefully they'll keep that bit in! By now it was lunchtime, and we all had a good meal at a local Café, before we all jumped into the cars and visited a leather worker's paradise. This showroom stocked leather, buckles and belts, and anything else for the DIY escape equipment builder. We were all drooling! Back to the meeting room next, and a (sort of) handcuff challenge. We all had a go at escaping from some of Chris's collection of cuffs. Weasel managed 6 in the time it took me to get out of 1, but I let him win (honest!) Kondini's friend Tony did an impressive Siberian Chain escape which baffled me. Finally, over the road to my locksmiths shop, for a hands-on gaffed lock building session. Also a demo of my Supalok followed with an attempt at specialist lock picking. This was a fun day enjoyed by all, and word is that we hope to make this a twice yearly event. I will be posting some pictures on the UKEA site very soon. Details later Mick H |

I agree with Ken in saying Mick put a lot of work into making the day another great coming together of the UKEA. I would also like to say I don't fancy being you Ken when the whiplash claim comes through from the press reporter. Weas.. |

2 things to add. Sorry, I forgot to mention Dave Matkin's dramatic straitjacket escape which should be on the mini video on the newspaper's website soon.
I ought to explain Ken's comments about the girl reporter. She thought she was just there to film a few scenes. But she didn't know about Ken! He grabber her, chained her to a chair and performed a neck penetration with the chains. Looked great, but as Ken said, she had some nice red marks across her neck when she left. This should be available to see on theire website from Monday evening UK time. Keep coming back here, and as soon as I know, I'll post the link. Another guy filmes some stuff too for a place on youtube, and between them, you should get the flavour of the day |
