I just got my Morgan Silver Dollar Expanded Shell and love it! I am looking for sources (books, DVDs, other) that use one shell in a walk around situation with no need for a table or limited use for a table where a hand could work.

I already do David Roth's Coins Across and have been looking into The World's Greatest Magic with Expanded Shells DVD, but it really didn't make me want to jump up and buy it.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Josh, you may want to try the "New York Coin Magic Seminar" DVD's, a two DVD set. There are several routines in them that use a shell that may be to your liking.....

Wow - at first I was going to say, "Isn't DesTROYers by Troy Hoosier?" But then I looked it up and you're darn right. DesTROYers is written by Joshua Jay but it is Hoosier's material. That threw me for a loop. Also, I highly recommend his DVDs for work on shells and a flipper coin. The two together are an incredible pair for visual coin magic.

Just an idea.....but possibly you could play with it yourself and come up with your own uses???.......but that would require thought...not spoon feeding.

Yes, a common mistake by many, desTROYer's is by joshua jay. Try coin man walking by dan walkins and his coinvanish books. If you shim your shell(in which I would have done professionally since you have a top grade shell) you can open up many possibilities. Also troy hoosier's exTROYanary is a marvolus routine of a 3 coin appearence and dissappearance. I would HIGHLY suggest Justin Miller's "Silver Dream". It is very easy with a she*l. if you like the shelled version work with the non-gaffed version(inwhich in my opinion is worth it.....sleeving is a breeze thanks to that dvd).

Hope this helps,
Jordan

Extreme Dean has a couple of nice routines with shells and I believe David Roth's Items would include a few items using the shell.

Roth has a coins across routine which uses a shell and ends with the last coin joining the coins in the spectator's hand. THis is in his book "Coin Magic"

Have a look in the book which introduced the gaff, Hoffmann's More Magic. The first item in particular should be most suggestive. Smile

I second the idea of playing with objects and combining them with other things on your table....

such as

coin boxes.
small harmonicas(1/2 inch or inch size)

Perhaps even a small spoon..(with a tip of the hat to the "spoon feeding reference")

With tongue somewhere near my cheek ...(and shell)

Have a good look in the old Downs' books and go buy some foil. Works fine as long as you have some distance. Smile

I place the shell on the palm of a spectator for a few secons, while I produce the second coin, and it works really well. Try not to place both coin and shell cause he'll notice the difference, and keep him busy while he is holding the shell, so he won't examine it. Then, the rest is up to you.

Matias,

If you're going to do that, why don't you produce the coin and shell, unnest the shell,
and then instead of handing the spectator the shell, do a shuttle pass for the real coin or a palm to palm transfer so that you give your spectator the real one and your spectator really can check examine the coin in his/her hadn. then you can produce the shell again and there is much less danger.

I am all for gutsy moves, but if there is an equally good looking safer solution, why not take that?
