There is an article in issue 26 of the art and culture journal Cabinet (www.cabinetmagazine.org) by Vanessa Toulmin of the National Fairground Archive here in the UK (www.nfa.dept.shef.ac.uk) about Kouringa the "Only Female Fakir in the World."
This issue of Cabinet is dedicated to the theme of "magic" (defined more loosely than we, as magicians, may be used to) and has some interesting articles.
