Blizzard is a simple and ingenious trick. Anyone have other tricks that can be used with the gimmick?

There are many uses for a deck S***l and deck s*****es, which are available from Ellsuionist and other sites, but this thread is helpful:

That thread is only about Blizzard and not really what the poster is asking for.

With Blizzard such a strong killer effect, why get greedy with the principle? Ken Brooke used to preach "Don't get greedy with a principle."

Totally agree with Pete. This is such a unique and powerful effect that it strikes me that any other blank deck effect in a set would only serve to water this one down.

Wasn't to do with the blank deck but the gimmick. One idea that someone gave me was to do do a trick a stacked deck. So along those lines.

I have only performed Blizzard a few times but I have trouble with the supplied gaff. I bought a steel one but have not tried it yet. Does anybody have any twists on the "bold move" ? With a few people watching I find it very difficult to get away with it. I was busted one time. This effect sure is one of the best however.

Also..if your looking for more effects with the Blizzard gimmick I would get the Chuck Leach DVD..tons of ideas and routines. They will require some practice but the basic moves are concealed unlike the Blizzard move.

The key to the move is the absolutely essential misdirection.
Nothing stronger than Dean's suggestion of having them mix up the cards but keep them in the exact same order. I've never been busted on this, as everyone watching (eventually) gets the absurdity of the line, and there's a tangible moment when they (almost always) laugh, that's the perfect time to make the move. Do the move without this distraction, and you will most certainly get busted! |

I agree with Pete, Dean uses that method alot. I have seen him do it at conventions and it works everytime. Its written in his Blizzard notes as the second method and I like it even more. Dean has another Blizzard effect he saves for the guys and it's great! He uses it to nail the guys in the know.

Hi,
You can combine it with Gemini Prediction by John Guastaferro. I use this. You should watch the dvd to be able to understand where the blizzard comes in Cheers Andre

Another idea that you can use is to tell the spectator to concentrate hard on his card while he's mixing them. Little extra misdirection can't hurt.

The only reason I know how Blizzard works is because I saw someone botch it.
I'm curious, does this come with Dean Dill's instructions no matter where you buy it? The performance video at Penguin is totally unfair because of what the camera does. |

Its kinda hard to misdirect a camera. The secret would be out if they didn't move it.
I saw Blizzard performed in front of an auditorium full of people. It got a standing O. It was at Abbots Get together around 1993 or so. It was also the year they had the services for Harry Blackstone Jr. Odd set of memories to link up there. |

Pete is right (of course) that not feeling guilty is critical. That, and a combination of making the spectators concentrate on the cards while moving them around, works every time.

Blizzard is OK but there are better blank deck tricks out there. Paleface by Alan Alan and E Bennett is such a trick. There are far more convincers and you get to see the faces of regular cards until close to the conclusion. At the end, just like Blizzard, everything can be examined.

With blizzard you DON'T show the faces... at all. Until the climax. This is why Blizzard doesn't combine well with other card effects. The effect in Blizzard is not a deck that changes from "Cards with Faces" to "Blank Face Cards".... this will lead them to suspect a deck switch. The effect in Blizzard is a spec names a card and it's the only card in an entirely blank deck.... and the spec is led to beleive that the deck was blank the WHOLE TIME.... no deck switches at all. You CANNOT and DO NOT show the faces prior to the climax in a properly performed Blizzard.
