I'm curious to know how many of you do vocal acrobatics in your acts (rapid voice changes, multiple characters at once, "Godzilla"-type lack of synchronization between mouth and sound, etc. Personally, I don't because I let the characters create the humor. I tend to think that vocal acrobatics are like card flourishes: impressive, but adding very little to the overall effect.

I'd love to read your thoughts.

I do mouth sounds to create other things such as:
Bird Flying
Cat
Cat in a dryer
Bird singing on a tree
Bird landing on Nigel
Sprinkler....
Tea Kettle....

...

Previous I used a small book called Mouth Sounds.

IN my usual 45 to 50-minute vent act for adults, I use just one or two figures with the usual comedy dialogues. But I add maybe 3-4 minutes of these "ventriloquial acrobats" (like the double voice, distant and muffled voices, and the drinking bit) just to put some variety.

I see some merits in these novelty vent bits. (Maybe also the reason why the greats--Bergen, Winchell, Ronn Lucas, Jeff Dunham, etc. use(d) them, too, in their live acts.)
