I take it you like the purity of B'Wave. Why do you think it's a better effect?

Just keep performing whatever effect you and your audiences enjoy best out of TS and B'wave. No need to buy this, let it fizzle out.

Now the question is:
Is it OK to steal the Transpo Kings presentation idea and use it with Twisted Sisters? Forget the "why would you want to?" argument for a second. If the excuse for Transpo Kings is that the cards predate Bannon, then by the same token doesn't the idea of showing the spectator the faces of cards predate everything? How about all those follow the leader effects for example. -Rd |

I agree with those against M.M. on here.
But. The more attention we bring to this latest installmeant of the M.M. line the more it will cause others to purchase it and see for themselves what it is or isn't. M.M. and Rob Stiff win. Meaning more sold more money to them. In My opinion (and it isn't worth much) is the less said about any Magic Makers items the better. |

Isn't it about time we boycotted Stiff's Stuff once and for all. Poor old Lee Asher came in for grief with his Asher Twist. That ended up as "Ghost Kings" (kings again!) on DVD which I foolishly got sucked into purchasing, in all innocence, and ended up apologising to Lee as soon as I discovered it was by Magic Fakers! But I'm amazed that someone as respected as Simon Lovell is in bed with them. Michael Skinner's "Ultimate Three Card Monte" went a similar way as Billion Dollar Monte - or something like that.
I thought that litigation ruled in the USA?!! When is somebody gonna take this little s&&t to the cleaners? Er, isn't John Bannon a lawyer? |

Next week I'm bringing out a new effect called YFW! Basically, I show the four fives. One at a time they turn face down, yet when they are turned over, they are the four Kings! Anyone interested?
:P On a serious note, someone tell Simon not to do this to his reputation. Even associating his name with Crapgic Makers will dent his reputation. Thing is, Rob Rigid won't mind any of this as it is going to get his name and site out there even more |

You are right Chris. I was thinking the very same thing. All publicity is good publicity. But the more that reaslise that he is a thieving unscrupulous f***wit, the more the word will, eventually, get around. There's already a good Magic Fakers website and it was breath of fresh air to hear good old Gregory Wilson have a political bash at the low-life at the Magic Circle last week!!! And it got quite a cheer! I feel a little sorry for Simon Lovell. I quite like him - but reputation only lasts as long as popular opinion!

I've seen Mr. Lovell on the Café before maybe he could shed some light on this subject.

I have the Simon Lovell "Red Deck" gaffed card set and DVD (issued by, er... Magic Makers), and this effect is included on that disk. Yes, it is just a reworking of "Twisted Sisters," same method, and I agree that the presentational device that Lovell has added weakens the effect by mucking up its simplicity. He does credit Bannon on the disk as well as versions that precede Bannon's, but given Twisted Sisters' status as one of the best-selling packet tricks and Lovell's minimal additions to the effect, it does, sadly, feel like a rip-off.

Bugjack, is the video in the demo identical to the DVD you own? If so, I suppose it's possible MMs reused it to market this effect with Lovell's permission. I think they did something similar once another magician.

Hi Cain,
Just watched the demo. The trick is the same but the demo is different. |

If only we had had these online forums back in the day...
Perhaps all the outrage people are feeling might give us an indication of how Peter Kane must have felt when he saw "Modern" Jazz Aces... Let alone Wild Card...

This is not good, IMHO. The extra cards are completely superfluous and only exist to make the effect seem a little different than Twisted Sisters.

Man, I hope this gets as little buyer attention as possible. It's the financial backing from confused purchasers which drives this company forward. Keep this hushed up and promote the better and original routines instead, I'd say.

> Keep this hushed up and promote the better and original routines instead,
Promote the originals for sure, but don't keep anything hushed up. The only way people can avoid buying this kind of stuff is if you sing from the roof tops when something like this happens. The people most likely to buy this stuff are people just starting out, who don't have enough of a grounding to even know that knock offs happen much less tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. I still don't know enough about the specifics of this case to say any thing definitive other than the trick I'm seeing performed definitely is Twisted Sisters. I don't know what credit was given or what permissions were sought. Speaking in the more general case, when we know of a knock off we should be telling as many magicians as we can, especially those new to magic. And there should be consequences for magicians who do this sort of thing. Such as not buying their other products, not attending their lectures, or better, attending their lectures and asking tough questions. Not attending their shows etc. About a year ago there was heated debate on the Café when a couple of amateurs speculated about how Copperfield achieved some of his illusions. How dare these hobbyists discuss the effects of a working pro. To even discuss methods is apparently the worst crime possible and the budding amateurs get !@#$% slapped for it. Then we have cases of working pros passing off the work of others and selling it (usually to amateurs new to magic) as their own. Which is the more serious offence against magic, and against the creators of original material? Where's the outrage that was directed at curious hobbyists and why isn't it being vented on this thread, when the villains are earning a living from their actions. I'm sensing a collective shrug of the shoulders on this one. -Rd |
