Per rossmacrae's request, three Knotty Bits Sideshow Promotional Videos.
For those of you just tuning in, this is the act we do mainly for Ren Faires. These are the videos used in our promo packs. It was filmed with a single camera at two seperate shows then spliced together. This was filmed during our first season with this particular show, and it has grown a lot since then (A lot of tweaking (Proving the glass, some blocking work, etc...) and new bits added (Costume removal in the box, different glass bed stunts, and a couple of completely new stunts). This will give you a general idea of how we perform for our "family" audience. Adult crowds...That can be VERY different. Watch, enjoy, and feel free to comment. Glasswalking-This is the one we use for most of our promotion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRFBjxunwoI Our version of a blade box- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTP66ALF8iQ Bed of Nails- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs7XMN6tZsY Gwyd |

For my b-day I learned how to walk on glass (and how to break arrows with our necks and walk on fire) but you walked on a very little thing, When I walked on it was at last 3 times as longer than yours, I'm just wondering why don't you do it longer, it looks much much much better.

Evan, may I ask who taught you, and how old you are?

P&T did a BullSh*t episode where they were talking about a woman that taught these exact skills, she ran a really really nice self help program out of a trailer home, and boy was she a PRO, her knowledge of the art was so vast that she might even beat the likes of Harley, Todd or James Taylor at a Sideshow Quiz Bowl. She could even certify you as a fire walk instructor for 1200 bucks!!!!!
I think Harley and Todd should take a page from her book! Brett.

Another example of synergy - a very good performer + a very good assistant = ultra-dynamite entertainment!

I hope that if you continue in these arts, you find a really good qualified teacher that will take you under their wing. There are a couple of reasons why the walk on the glass is not a long drawn out stroll. Really, only three to four steps. 1- It is intentional. I actually make a joke about how the audience is applauding for a guy who only walked four feet. It sets me up for the jump into the glass. I don't like to do things without reason, and it makes it logical that I would be goaded to do the next level. 2- Always leave them wanting more. You wanted to see more walking? Good. I did my job right. I'd rather that than have you say..."Ok...ok...I get it. He's walking on glass. Enough already." 3- Practical purposes. My entire show packs into a 2'x4' footprint- The exact dimensions of the back seat of a 1995 Cadillac Deville. There are two people in the show. We do a lot of shows. We have more than enough to lift and move without adding another four feet of glass. It takes up stage, effort and time. Could I walk on glass longer? Sure. Pretty much indefinately. There are certain acts where I do. This wasn't one of them. Hope it makes sense to you, and thanks very much for watching!! Gwyd |

Thanks so much Ross!
She should be considered a partner as opposed to assistant though. She slugged a promoter once for calling her an assistant. This is for your own safety!! She can do almost everything I can do, plus she is a top notch fire eater (I could watch her for hours doing tongue transfers...) dancer and aerealist. Hopefully we will be able to get a promo video of her fire eating and painting soon and you'll see what I mean. Thanks again!! Gwyd |

I am going to start 'training' and learning this act in the next few weeks.
As I told Harley, an 'old' perfomer will be teaching me. It sure was fun collecting all the beer bottles. Some fun nights. I hope my performance will be as entertianing as yours "Gwyd." -Oh and who am I? I wish I knew... |

Give him a break ...... an arm or a leg.
As long as he can remember how to do it ........ Does it matter who taught him? Actually I think the answer might be yes based on discussion on this board - but never mind - he’s young he will heel quickly ONLY JOKING he wont heel any quicker than anyone else did. I think I might go and try glass walking now .... Some bloke down the pub told me how to do it. I can’t remember his name ……. But basically You DRINK lots of booze first. I myself might try leaving my boots on - I think that will work? |
