I was reading a PDF of an old Hugard's Magic Monthly and came across a recounting of "the vanish by the throw behind the back" performed by Chung Ling Soo. Has anyone made regular use of this sleight? It seems highly improbable to me that anyone except a stage magician could manage to make such a catch without being noticed. Apparently, Soo used this to vanish a linking ring. Anyone know if this originated with Soo, or is it much older than him?
Let him borrow and return his handkerchief like a man, and trust to his sleight of hand.

I used to use a coin toss behind the back in a routine. The danger is in missing the catch and having it land on the floor...or worse... but I never missed once, I'm proud to say. If I tried it now, the coin would end up in someone's bowl of soup.

Greg Wilson discusses a behind you back toss and vanish in his "Off the Cuff" dvd.

I can't imagine, especially a small item like a ring.
Ok, I'll meet you at the place near the thing where we went that time.
