Ok, corny, but what's life without laughter at self?
I'm very excited about being part of this community. I know I'm in the minority, being female, and venturing into this a little later than most (I'm 36), but I'm brave and adventurous and so here I am. My brother and I loved magic tricks as kids, and I've always loved being entertained by magicians. Once street magic became hip, I was hooked as a spectator. But the thrill of doing it yourself, of showing a very simple card trick at a party amongst friends and hearing the ooahs and ahhs, and seeing the astonished looks, is priceless. My interests in psychology have moved easily into the area of mentalism. I'm not looking to be a pro, just to share fun and entertainment with others. But I want to be able to perform tricks expertly, or at least extremely well. I hope being here is a step closer to understanding the world of magicians, as well as gaining tips and making friends. cheers |

I'm also new here, so I can't really say "welcome," but I can say hello. So I guess that's what I'm saying. Hello.

Wecome! The temptation to jump right in and start performing is often overwhelming. At the opposite side is the person who has to absorb everything about the art before venturing into the performing arena. Try a middle approach. Learn what is ENTERTAINING, not just a puzzle or trick. It's all about YOU and how much you can capture their attention and ENTERTAIN them.
Best of luck!
Nothing is truer than the incomprehensible, because the sum total of our knowledge consists of the fact that we know nothing. Our reality is an illusion. Thus illusion is reality-Punx

Thanks for the hellos and welcomes.
wkitwizard... erm, thanks for the advice, but I don't want to be a performer. Perhaps I should have said 'do' the tricks? |

Hi Nykky.
Welcome to The Magic Café. It's never too late to start learning magic. But once you enter into this art, you'll spend the rest of your life learning it. Much to learn. Psychology plays a very important role in ALL forms of magic, not just mentalism. You can study and read about this in depth from some of the best magical minds, Slydini, Dai Vernon, Max Maven, Osterlind, McBride, Michael Ammar, Eugene Burger..... too many to list. Okay girl, get out there and brush up on your magic. Study the psychology behind why each effect works, and then get out there and enterain someone. I don't care what my rabbit says, tricks aren't just for kids... they're for 36 year olds too!!! Welcome again! |

Hi Nykky,
Never too late! I jumped into magic in my early forties (a couple years back) and am astounded at the amount of work it can take to perfect a routine. But it's worth every minute when you get a good reaction from your audience. Welcome! |

Hi.
I'm 39 and just starting out in magic, but it's been great so far. I love the challenge of trying to perfect a trick but, like Nykky, am not sure I want to perform, just for friends and family (and hopefully make more friends along the way). |
