Is this deceptive for vanishes? Isn't it obvious that whatever you've just vanished is in the box?
I ask because I want to make someone's (probably a child's) shoe vanish, but I need a convincing method. |

You could use a Tip Over Box to vanish the child's shoe...

You can also use Jim Gerrish's O.O.P.S. Machine (from his Kid Show Magic on my site) as a simple shoe vanish without going to all the trouble of burning it to a crisp first. However, transforming it into a slipper, flip-flop, or fancy sock would also make it funnier, and take more heat off the box.

You mean this has been thought of before? Dammit! I had almost precisely that idea: to borrow a boy's shoe, wreck it, burn it, vanish it and restore it (and perhaps, somewhere along the line, transform it into a pink sparkly girl's shoe).
But of someone's already done the hard work for me of dreaming up method, routine...great! |

It's better used for a change (silks to spring flowers) or a production. I would not use it for a vanish unless you change the shoe into something else.
A visible vanish of the shoe could be done using a Bengal Net. Wrap the shoe in a silk and when the net falls all is left is the silk (dup). Larry |

Oh I like that, Larry! Thanks for the idea! Tricky to get the shoe out, though, no? I've never had a Bengal Net, though I'm familiar with the principle.
Here's what I want to do: 1. Borrow a boy's shoe and in the process of "cleaning" it, wreck it (this is SO like Jim Gerrish's OOPS that I must have read about it somewhere...!) 2. Offer to make the shoe as good as new, but accidentally turn it into a pink sparkly shoe. 3. Either a) change the girl's shoe into the boy's original shoe, now restored, OR, b) find the boy's shoe somewhere impossible like a nest o'boxes. I work without an assistant, BTW. (And I should add that I'm not overly fond of effects that fool only the children. At most of my gigs there are a load of adults as well and I want them to be mystified too!) Moderators: this may now be in the wrong section? Please move it if so. |
