I need a short (1 min to 3 min) gospel theme for an upcoming Vacation Bible School at my local church. Below are some of the things I can do. Please take a look and if you know of a gospel message, please explain it to me and you'll be helping me out BIG-TIME!
1) Finger Ring and String routine 2) Flash String to Silk, then Silk to Egg routine (where fake egg turns into a real egg) 3) Cups and Ball Routine 4) Playing Cards: Sleight of hand with cards. 5) Sponge ball Routine 6) I have a regular "color book" - not the gospel one. 7) I own a "what's next" 8) I can do that orange, lemon, egg, canary routine. 9) I can use a topit very well. 10) I own those hip hop rabbits 11) Cut and restored rope routine. 12) I was thinking of using that Diamond Jim Tyler torn and restored effect using flash paper. This isn't all, so if you know of a trick/message that is not on the list - I'll still very much appreciate it. |

Jonathan,
With the cut and restored rope you can talk about without sin we are like the rope whole in one piece but we know we sin and when the rope is cut you can say we are seperated from GOD just like the rope is seperated. Restore the rope just like we are restored when we seek forgiveness. I have a spiritual bank account book that works on the same principal as the coloring book. I got it from the Laflins. Good luck. Also, on the rope thing, you can work in the prof's nightmare and talk about how the world sees us all as different, but God sees us all the same.

Finger Ring and String...can talk about nothing can seperate us from the Love of God (when ring is on string)and there's no obstacle that can keep God from saving you if you ask...placing ring on string.
What's Next...do the routine as you usually would, but end with "we're not sure what's next, but God does...That's why we need to make sure we are tight with Him. Coloring book...do the regular routine having kid's draw the pictures in the air, coloring in the air and throwing it up to you, then end with the thought it took everyone working together to color this book. We all had a part to do, just like in the body of Christ, we all have something important to do for Jesus. Orange, lemon, egg, canary routine...I would do the routine but tie in the verse where David talks about that God's Spirit always knows where He's at, if he makes his bed in hell, God is there...so no matter where we're at, God knows just where to find us(production of canary then). Sponge ball...you could do a loaves and fishes routine, ending up with 20 sponge balls in the spectator's hand...ala Dick Stoner routine. Hip Hop Rabbits...you could talk about the true you. We can try and change and be something that we're not, but God wants us to understand that we are fearfully and wonderfully made...tie in these thoughts as you're doing the routine, especially when rabbit's change places For some other quick routine ideas, check out my website and go to television spots and there you will find 6 quick routines that you might be able to use...all are kid tested, mother approved! I hope this helps... |

I've said it before, Steve Varro once gave me some of the best advice I've ever been given. He told me to develop my message first, then find an effect that would compliment that message, not to find messages that would compliment an effect. There's a difference.
What is the theme of your VBS? Is there a theme for the week, or a theme for each different night? Try to develop a message that will coincide with the themes already selected for your VBS. Once you have messages, then work out routines (or use existing ones) to compliment that message.

It all depends where your creativeness lies...I can work either way, most of the time I see an effect and then think, what message could I put to it. Having worked up to 200 programs a year, my mind tends to work in that direction. After I have thought out a message for each effect, then I put the program together with the theme I want to go with for that night. I then have a selection of effects to work with to build that theme, or I build a program around one of my effects with other supporting tricks ...but I think it's up to the individual.
