Fellow Members of the IBM is there a pattern being set in the last two issues of TLR. I have been a member for years and have always received my LR in the first week of the month with a FEW Exceptions. It is now the 11 TH of May and NO LR. Same thing last month received my issue really late. This magazine should arrive early so we are not reading May's issue in June. Please SPS get this out to us on time or there is a possilility the IBM might lose some members due to lateness of TLR. Have you received your LR yet or are you still waiting?

Well, to be fair, the new editor (Samuel Smith) just took over from Phil Willmarth, and will likely (hopefully) get things back on track once he settles more comfortably into the position. I just hope he has the good sense to bring back Aldo's column which was, for me, the highlight of every issue.

There are several columns I enjoyed reading that seem to have "vanished."
In addition to Aldo's, there was the "Linking The Rings" column by Tom Vorjohan, the "Ethics" column from Rolando Santos and Mike Durant's "Internet Magic" column. All of these were great reads and full of wonderful advice, suggestions and information. So...not only is the magazine late each month, it's missing some good articles as well. Given this was Phil Willmarth's "main job," I wonder if SPS doesn't have too much on his plate given all the other ventures he's involved in, such as his own publishing company, books, videos, magazines...etc. Mark. |

Geez, Mark... now that you mention it, I realize that I AM missing more than just Aldo.
There's an interesting explanation for Aldo's disappearing column on his web site. It almost convinced me to discontinue my subscription. |

If you're getting it late... think how long it reaches us here.

I'll read it for you and PM you the good stuff when I get this months issue next month. LOL. Mr. Colombini explains all and has a kick butt sale going on to.

I don't think renewing online has anything to do with it. My membership is current and I'm still waiting!

The Linking Ring was delivered to the printer on schedule. The mailing has been delayed to the end of the month due to a mechanical situation with the contracted printer. An explanation will be placed in the next issue. The current issue of the journal is available on line for current subscribers.
I belong to Phil Wilmarth's home Ring. The ring meets for lunch every Friday. I hear things and I pass them along. No big deal. Who's on the cover?

What is a big deal is that a respected and very professional member of our magical community assumes a job that I didn't see any of you lining up for and you automatically assume that it's his fault the magazine is late and it's his fault that various columnists have moved on. Ridiculous and insulting! How about a little brotherly compassion and patience for one of our peers stepping into some VERY big shoes. Your magazine is a couple of weeks late...it's not the end of the world.
Oh yeah...Branson's incredible Justin Flom is on the cover of the May issue...and very deserving. That information is posted on the IBM website along with the on-time online version of the TLR, in case you're interested. Anything else?

Skip, I happen to know Sammy and he is a GREAT Guy, but he does have a serious problem with getting magazines out on time. I have been a subscriber to the Funny Paper since Sammy took it over and not one time has the FUNNY PAPER been on time. I DO NOT want this to happen to TLR. I think that the LR is blowing some smoke and perhaps we all should view this as unacceptable practice. It is not the end of the world, but how many members of the IBM will continue to tolerate the magazine being late? Not many!!!!!

For me, I'm not going to give up 20 years of membership over a few weeks. In the big scheme of things it's really not worth fussing about.

Frankly, as much as I enjoy reading and rereading my TLR's, they come in at a lowly 11th on my list of reasons for joining and supporting the IBM. When they arrive, it is a bonus to my day; nothing more.
