It would help to have more information before answering your question, since your fee depends upon a number of factors.
Tell us about your business: Are you a full-time or part-time pro? How experience you you have presenting family shows? Are you just getting started or have you been performing extensively for a number of years? How many shows have you done in the last 3 months? What else can you do for the fair - for example, strolling between shows, emcee duties, helping with promotion, etc.? Do you have first rate promotional materials including photos and publicity flyers so they can promote your appearance? How did the fair committee hear about you, were you referred by an agent or other trusted source? What type of fair is it, local, county, state or other? Will you be traveling back and forth each day or commuting? What other expenses might you incur? Will you provide the sound system, or perhaps even the stage? Do you know which other performers they are considering and what those performers charge? How much do you need to make in order to run a sustainable business? All these things factor into your strategy for setting and quoting a fee. Fees for fairs can range from a few hundred dollars per day to several thousand. It all depends on what you offer, how you position, package and promote your shows and how badly they want YOU! Jim |

I could not have said it any bettre myself. I was going to suggest the same thing. I perform at a lot of fairs and festivals and until some of the questions are answered above, it would be hard to really give you the bets advice that we can to help you.
Also make sure you really define this event. Many times people use Fairs and festivals as the same thing when they really are quite vastly different. As Jim suggested, is this festival or fair a local community festival, 4 -h fair, large state fair last a week or more? Defining the type of fair or festival will also help me to help you. Kyle

I have been performing for 5 years. I perform family shows. I contacted the fair. I will provide my own show and a half hour before my show I will do walk around. No flyers at the show. I will staying in a hotel room. In the past month I have performed in 20 shows. Lets say that its a town fair, as opposed to a huge county fair. It would be kind of a smaller show(local). I charge 300 for a regular show. Hopefully that helps.

A fee in the $300 - $500 range would probably be appropriate, but much depends upon the quality of your promotional materials.

I would suggest coming up with a fee for this type of performing, and every type of performing that you do for that matter, before contacting a venue.
Coming up with a rate sheet, that lists exactly what you charge for specific types of performing, will make these decisions much easier, and make your sales presentation much more pro. Hmmm... I feel a new thread coming on. |

Here, here, Troy!
That means carefully considering one's business, goals and objectives. Next, putting together a great show, rehearsing it thoroughly and trying it out "in the provinces" until all the bugs are worked out. Then devising a business plan and marketing plan, that includes pricing strategy. And finally, hanging out one's shingle. Pricing strategy is one of the five marketing elements I spoke about at the Kidabra Conference last year. One can choose to enter the market at the low end to get a foot in the door in a target markets, the middle range to be competitive, or the high end, to establish a certain credibility, but that pricing strategy should be planned prior to contacting potential clients.
