A few weeks ago at the Castle they was some action going on with guys like Paul Harris, John Lovick, David Regal, guys like that. I wanted to know what was going on and have been bothering my LA contacts about it and now I've been tipped to what is going on and it is, to me at least, something very new on DVD that can be subscribed too or obtained at magic shops. It is going to be A video magazine, kind of like a 60 Minutes for magicians and it is on its way. Since I nosed around I found out what is suppose to be on the first issue or disk. Paul Harris talks about Technology, Mystery and Astonishment and how technology has changed the face of magic. Andrew Pinard talks to Harry Lorayne about memory and magic, John lovick describes his bill switch encyclpedia "Switched" and explains his favorite switch. Garrett Thomas does his column called "Try This at Home" David Regal looks at 4 new effects and Wayne Kowamoto from about.com looks at 3 new dvd sets And as bonus Tong explains his amazing chop cup routine, Potassey explains his bill in potato. I don't know how you get that many top guys to cooperate on stuff.
It is called Reel Magic Quarterly, TV For Magicians and I was told it would be $40 a year in the US a bit more outside the US. Now for the unfortunate part. I've no idea where to order this! If anyone knows please post a link because I forgot to ask. This does look to be a pretty good thing. |

No kidding. Tracking down Paul Harris alone is quite a feat. I may have to call my local magic shop (140 miles away) to see if they know when it will be in.

Looks like it. I entered reel magic and my engine didn't find it. Sometimes I enter the same thing at different times and different things come up....dang computers.

Okay, I called my LA contact and he called one of the people on the first DVD and they called someone else. The word is the website will be up and running next week and folks can order. So it is $10 a disk, not bad. We'll see how the first one is. Oh, my friend told me that the second one has some cool stuff on it and he, my pal, was also surprised they tracked down Paul Harris for this. I call Paul Harris the Yeti of Magic because he is seldom seen but he always leaves his footprints for us to find.

This is a quarterly DVD magazine produced by Ted Brainard, a.k.a. Kozmo. The interview with Paul Harris is worth the price of the magazine for a year (OK OK I conducted it with Paul and help from Bob Mills but Paul had some really engaging thoughts about magic, performing, etc.). Ted has lined up some powerhouse pieces... many surprised for the next several issues. I believe the first issue will be out later this summer. It's an exciting venture- interviews, reviews, tricks, etc. all on DVD at a very affordable price (sounds like a pitch - it is... I want to see Ted do well and succeed on this as I think it is a great idea and a valuable product).

I'll tell you this, Paul Harris's thoughts on "Astonishment" changed the way I look at and perform magic. So.....sign me up for this. And it's being produced by Kozmo Magic? This will be FANTASTIC!

Yeah, I didn't know that until Tim Trono mentioned it. If the same level of quality goes into these as went into the couple Kozmo DVDs I have they should be great. Regal is a really funny guy so seeing him do his thing rather than reading it will be fun.

Should be interesting. I see they know how to pick a cool name for a magic video production. Great minds must think alike!

This will be available through Ted (Kozmo) or your favorite dealer. I've had a chance to see some clips of it and it is great!!! He's already working on issue 2 and 3.
