Overall, good - certainly looks professionally done. Maybe a little card-heavy, especially in the spectator clips. But if that's his specialty or his main genre, then I guess it's appropriate.
I found the client list difficult to read, because of the font choice and all caps and the somewhat busy background.

There are several good aspects of the video and there are a few things I would have done differently. Take a breath. Here we go! *grin*
I thought the fonts were not that bad, just the placement. For example, I took the liberty of attaching a before and after shot of what could be done with titles. The Before is a capture from the video. The After is what I did with it in just a minute or two of playing around. Here's the link: http://www.reelsinmotion.com/temp/title-shot.jpg As Danny mentioned, I'm assuming cards are his thing. Nothing wrong with that. It brings up a point about the video: is this a magician I should hire? What are the benefits? Who else has hired him? I see he's good out on a street and on a closed set, but will that work for my company? (This isn't a dig at the magician... he obviously has chops, but these are questions that a potential employer would be thinking) Many of the shots are studio shots that would have been much more powerful had they been shot before a real audience. He is a very skillful magician and it wasn't until almost a third of the way into the video that he started performing live magic. There are also MANY opportunities to build up his image with testimonials, quotes, etc. I didn't get a chance to see a client list (it stopped about 3/4 of the way through - slow internet on my end I think). For example, the shot of him standing against the wall could have had a testimonial added in perspective along the wall. Here's what I had in mind: http://www.reelsinmotion.com/temp/wall.jpg It is framed perfectly for that. On the technical side, the video is well shot and I see you've shot it using two XL-1's, which is what I used to use years ago. I like the composition in many of the shots and you've taken your time to record GOOD, QUALITY audio, which is lacking in so many other videos today. You look like you know what you are doing and it shows. But I'm afraid from a marketing point of view, I just don't seem to get that desire that I "NEED" to hire this guy, especially with low key music like you had. In any field, especially video production, it is that last 10-15% that takes a video from good to great. It looks like you are very close. Keep working on it! Good luck in your new video business. Where are you located? Sometimes I am overloaded with productions and it is nice having a few contacts I can toss work to. Are you Final Cut based? Warm regards, Scott |
