I recently purchased Michael Baker's "Coin in Wool" for Dollar Size (Ike or Silver) coin with two gimmicks (one as backup), wool ball, vivid instructions for two handlings and beautiful box.
I also commissioned him to build me a giant "Color Vision Cube" for a comedy bit I perform semi-regularly...and thanks to Michael now regularly. Coin to Ball of Wool: The box is a gem unto itself and worth the price I paid by itself. Beautiful choice wood, beautifully finished with brass hardward and sturdy! The finish was dark and it looks like a collectable worthy of any magic den...and is also a "worker" designed for real use every night of the week. The lid and box are hinged with a perfect fit. The gimmicks are made to last (I only ordered a second in case I lost the first...but one of these would last the rest of your career!) and even the yarn was very thick weave wool yarn in a beautiful green (I don't know if he uses this color all the time, but as a Scots-Irish lad it made me very happy to see!) The instructions have two methods...one a classic and the other is a new handling that is very cunningly clever, yet simple. Once I got the jist of it I realized I'd be using this immediately after working up a good script. Very easy to do, yet baffling! Cost me $65.00 but worth a heck of a lot more for such a stunningly beautifully made classic! Color Vision: A beautifully made hardwood box, same dark stain and finished to be a collecatable or a worker. Made to last forever! The color cube is 3inches square and painted on the sides with a neutral grey so your eyes go to the big bright colored dots (all painstakingly cut, carved, sanded, primed, hand painted and finished like the box. The dots are actually engraved into the wood for added quality! The wood is of heavyduty quality like the above effect and it's easy to operate...of course it's Color Vision! The great thing is is that Michael thought of a VERY clever new handling that he put with this trick..which of course I'll be using! It's wonderful to have this clever new handling and large version of this...it's a classic that many lay people have actually never seen! AND VERY REASONABLY PRICED! I don't know, since it was commissioned, that I should divulge what I paid for it...but if you want one simply pm him here at the Café. It was, like the above Coin to Wool, worth every penny. Michael's work is exceptional and you can tell he takes great pride in perfecting his work. I believe I got a "deal" with these as I know I'll have them around and use them for a very long time. Michael Baker is a regular contributor here and his work and advice deserve respect. And as far as customer service, Michael is second to none and very communicative. Top notch all the way! I get to see Michael's work as we are members of the Ring 35 in Birmingham, AL. If you have never actually seen his work it is fantastic. If you have only seen pictures of his work, as well as they look, they are even better once you see the items & work with them in your hands.
His restoration work is unbelievable. James
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.
