Hey everyone, I first came across the idea of mind reading from Derren Brown and have been interested in the idea ever since, I can't however find out any details as to how it is performed/what's done. It's something that i'de very much like to learn and I was wondering if you could help me out, regards, Amber.

I think when you start talking about Derren Brown's mind reading you will need to research using good books the obvious favourite is 13 steps to Mentalism.

Where is that section? Quite a challenge to navigate that site.

My suggestion is don't buy the book just because you want to know how the effect is accomplished. Buy it if you really want to know about this art

Also check out the 'Penny for your Thoughts' section of the Magic Café. Though the participants there are VERY canny about not giving out their secrets, you will discover a lot about how mentalists think, the sort of effects they perform, and what their favorite books are.

Good luck!

If you can get to my site, you'll find the indices to many published books so you can see what you are getting in those books. The Learned Pig index in particular has many free public domain books listed. The author's name known to most mentalists is Theodore ("Ted") Annemann and his books contain most of the basics of what modern mentalists are doing.

In my Wizards' Journals (also on my site) you'll also find articles written for beginners in many areas of magic, including mentalism. They are not very expensive and often contain excerpts from old public domain books on similar topics. I call your attention to "Dollar Divination" in Wizards' Journal #5 as a good place to begin.

After the classics, in case you're thristy for more, take te time to study Richard Osterlind and Banachek's work, also Alexandre's Black School book.
