I have a magical colleague that is graduating from high school and is the Valedictorian. He asked me to suggest ONE Effect that he can perform in front of the entire audience (maybe 2000+ people), but would also have a few distinguished people behind him while at the podium while giving his speech.
He prefers to do an effect that relates to academics and graduation.... Like Magic helped him to get an "A"... Or anything else related to academics. He wants to become a Doctor also. He does not want to do a Huge stage perfomance requiring expensive apparatuses either. My suggestion was to do ANDERSON's NEWSPAPER TEAR and talk about the school newspaper.... Tearing it up as although high school will be "old news" and then restoring it and stating that his life would always have a strong future because he carried what he learned from his backbone-- His teachings in high school. His teachings and history (the "newspaper") will ALWAYS be living and restored in his mind.... The Restored Newpaper. Maybe it's a bit corny, but I think you get the jist of what I am suggesting. I like the idea of ANDERSON'S NEWSPAPER TEAR, because it performs BIG... It's QUICK... It has a FLASHY RESTORATION... The Patter has POTENTIAL to be related to Graduation... And simply, it is a GREAT and SIMPLE EFFECT in itself!!!! The only tricky part is the angle towards the people behind him, of course. Anyone has some other suggestions of any other effects and the patter/theme to go with it??

Hi there,
I haven't really got any good ideas that I know about, but I will have a think! Just wanted to say that I think your paper tear idea is excellent and I shouldn't worry too much about the people behind you! Hope this helps! Wish your friend luck from me! God bless! Magical Mark Watson (mark1991)

It's probably too late now, but how about Anniversary Waltz (Christopher Carter) with jumbo cards? Might be hard to pull off.

Magic trick at graduation?
Walking across the stage without tripping. Or *poof* the vanishing diploma. :) -Robert
