Hi All,

I've been performing the ID for a while now. I've played around with different presentaions. Having the spec shuffle the deck etc to choosing 3 specs to each choose a part of the card etc.

Which presentation gets the desired effect you are looking for? Please share.

I seem to have the best reactions with the original routine ("Here, take this deck of cards... which just happens to be invisible.")

Beyond that, the "Back to the Future" routine is pretty hardcore.

Let's set the record straight:

The Invisible Deck is the name of the routine from Eddie Fields and Don Alan. The deck of cards used is an Ultra Mental Deck. Just another example of the narrowing of our language.

The ID routine is a classic and always gets great reactions, but the routine has been over exposed. In many of my trade show appearances, the ID has been done by other workers and then given away to the attendees. ARRGH!!!!!!

I use my "I Knew It All the Time" routine and can still fool an audience--even though they have the deck in their "goodie bag". Non magicians do not equate methodology--they equate similar routines.

I do a 3 part routine if the situation warrants...
1. the original,
2. 3 specs pick a part.,.
& 3. Switch in a brainwave and have someone call someone with a cell.

Works and plays very strong...

Chris Korn and JB Benn created quite a stir with their "Pool Table Trick" on Mondo Magic. It was one of the most ingenious uses for the invisible deck I'd seen in quite some time.

perhaps you could be like Queen Elizabeth II and have 2 birthdays, an official one and a "real" one.

Darwin Ortiz, DO AS I DID, the best effect using an Ultra Mental deck. Even if they have one, they will never realize that is what you are using.

I see a lot of people performing Steve Bedwell's routine with this prop.

I use mark striving's invisible brainwave routine....IT'S Honestly a killer. I also use wayne dobson's invisible card routine...It's an invisble deck with out a deck!....it's one of the funniest i/d routines out there.

Right from the beginning I liked the funny idea of letting the spectator play with an invisible deck. But if you choose to present the Ultra Mental Deck this way I think you should go all the way. I would like the invisibility to be the main theme, and not mixed up with different mental effects like "I am guessing your thoughts" or "I knew from the beginning".
That is why I am working on a more clean presentation:
1) "I will show you a very strange deck of cards. I must keep it in a handkerchief in case I forget where I placed it. You will understand when you see it". And I show the shape of a cardcase through the fabric, unwrap the packet and show - nothing inside (using the splendid idea of Angelo Carbone).
2) Then I follow (almost) the standard presentation of The Invisible Deck, but emphasize the free choice of the card. The turning of the card is justified by mentioning that I don't want the spectator to change his minds again. The turned card is the "proof" of his choice.
3) When I get the invisible deck back I get into trouble: I want to show a trick with the chosen card, but nobody will be able to see it. I must try to make the deck visible again. "This can be done with an other deck. When the invisible deck feels a visible deck near it, it wants to be seen also."
Here I take the real ID covered with a DS from my pocket and place it on the table. When I place the new visible deck onto the invisible, the latter suddenly becomes visible again. The "help deck" (only the DS) can now be pocketed again.
4) Now I feel that the audience don't believe it is the same deck I have made visible. "I wish I could somehow proove that this is the same deck as you handlede before!". If nobody gets the point you must get the idea yourself: "Well, if there is a turned-around card - and it is yours - then it MUST be the same deck!".
5) Then it is time to show that this is just the case.
6) After the fact is absorbed, I take the handkerchief (or an other) and wrap it around the deck. "And now the deck is invisible again!" - with a knowing smile I return the packet to my pocket.
If anybody wants to take a look at the deck - well, why look at an invisible deck?
I am not completely finished with this, but I would like to hear any comments.

The "pool table" ID trick is not the idea of JB Benn or Chris Korn. It belongs to Eddie Fields. It can be found in his book written by Stephen Minch.

I never meant to imply that it was their invention. I simply meant "Check out that presentation/performance. Eddie Fields IS the inventor. I discussed it with Chris Korn personally @ Midwest Magic Jubilee where we discussed their inspiration for doing it (Neither one of them claim the effect) and confirmed my research. The 1st incarnation of this specific plot was originally published under the title of "Salty Dog Location" in Eddie's Book: The Greater Artful Dodges of Eddie Fields (A revamed version of his earlier Artful Dodges) Written Jon Racherbaumer (not Steven Minch) The Setup that Korn/Benn used (I.E. a marked deck and an I.D.) was diffrent in pieces of effect. Different from the written discription in this particular feilds book.

I like performing Steve Bedwell's ID, Shake, Shuffle and Twist.

Both Jon Tremaine's version of the ID and Whit Haydn's version are two that I use a lot.
