I have never done this before to a spectator, but I'm sure this would work great:

1. Have the spectator call anyone they want. When the person answers, ask the spectator is you can talk to their friend.

2. Ask the person on the phone to name any card they want. They do. You thank them nicely and hand the phone back to the spectator.

3. You say, "It's funny that your friend named that card. Because earlier, I turned over just one card in my deck here."

4. Go through the deck to show the card named face down.

5. The spectator can tell their friend what happened over the phone immediately.


I've never actually done this, but anyone who wants can use this routine.

I absolutely love "No ID" by Josh Zandman. So clean, so easy, incredible reactions.

I've moved away from my ID a bit though because I recently got the Mind Power deck which is just absolutely incredible.

The idea of showing the shape of a cardcase through the fabric, then unwrapping the packet and show - nothing inside (using the splendid idea of Angelo Carbone) sounds really good. Any idea as to where I could find additional information about this routine. Is the mentioned hankerchief something that is commerically available? If so, where?

I think Angelo's idea is brilliant. But, I do wish that the handkerchief was solid black or perhaps something a little classier looking. Anything but plaid! No offense, Angelo!

As for ID routines, I think it's very telling that Chad Long uses the traditional "Shuffle the cards.... no, take them out of the box first" presentation.

I like Steve Bedwell's routine with the cocktail shaker a lot.

And, I like doing the traditional routine using a small drawer box to make the deck appear.

I also think using two decks - one with a Si Stebbins set-up is a great way to present the ID.

I use a Stebbins stacked deck with the Ultra Mental deck as Robert suggested. Mine is presented in such a way that the selected card from the stack is re-inserted into the stacked deck outjogged and reverse. In this manner, it will give a very strong image exactly the same as when the selection is revealed in the Ultra Mental deck. The down side is, of course, uncooperative audiences who shuffles your stacked deck. Perhaps using a marked deck can eliminate this problem. I believe using a marked deck can accomplish the same effect as well.

It had to be a patterned fabric and not a plain one in order to hide the edges of the form within. I tried a plain fabric and you could clearly see the form under it. I chose plaid as I thought it would be more traditional

I din't like the patterned fabric, so I tried different kinds of material.
I found that a heavy silken handkerchief with ironed "ridges" an "valleys" (after folding) hides the secret very well.
It offers also a pleasant sight and can be crubled away in a very little volume after the "Invisible Deck" has been removed.

I saw this post from a few years ago and not sure their version or how old this routine but I first performed this in 1980, 43 years ago thinking I was clever coming up with this spur of the moment on the spot as a teenager for a group of us 1 day when I played a lot of pool and snooker and have used it ever since with amazing reactions using 1 pool ball, the black hit with the white and the face down cards then the prediction . Have never heard of Eddie Fields until I read this post..but was proud of the fact that as a youngster this just seemed a fun way to use the deck.

If you have a stack memorized, Patrick Redford's handling of Mike Close's Invisible Deck is by far my favorite. Being able to hand it out after performing is something that fries everybody I've ever shown it to. A lot of laymen are familiar with R&S principles now unfortunately.
