Anyone able to point me at a good source for pitch cards?
It'd be best if they know what they are doing since I'm afraid I may not - yet.

I have used three companies:

Color for Real Estate (good for short runs, 100 cards)
http://www.colorforrealestate.com/

Overnight Prints (friendly website, just upload your digital work)
http://www.overnightprints.com/

Modern Postcard (greeting cards as well as postcards)
http://www.modernpostcard.com/

The way I do these, I download a Photoshop template from the company, put the card together, upload the finished work to their website and they do the rest. When you say that you may not know what you're doing, do you mean that you can't work in Photoshop? Your avatar is nice.

Paul,

Thanks, can't take full credit for the avatar, but I am OK in Photoshop...

My aprehension is more with style, content, and the workings of pitchcards in general... I've not done one before so the inside scoop on what works, what's good and the "don't-do list" are things I know I don't know...

I suppose on this one I'm somewhere between “unconscious incompetence” and “conscious incompetence”.

I know there is stuff I don’t know - I just don’t know what it is.

Steve,

Have a look at Sideshow World to see some old pitchcards. It is hard to be more specific unless we know what the pitchcard is for. An attraction? Your show?

Style is up to you. Flashy and modern? Retro and sepiatone? What are we selling?

The old sideshow pitchcards were for giants, midgets, the limbless, etc. They told some of the life story of the person and frequently carried a message of hope. You can see some of these at Sideshow World. They have fun facts: shoe size for a giant, that kind of thing.

There are plenty of good folks here at the Café. Tell us what you are pitching.

Yours,

Paul

I've had good luck with Overnight Prints. Just be aware that if you're planning on leaving the back black and running it thru you laser or inkject printer, it doesn't work.

Thanks, all good contact info. As for what I'm selling... Still evolving, but I need to know “where the left foot will go after the right foot goes down”. May just be a simple photo op for a buck... or give away contact/marketing material like the original pitchcards. But it all sort of depends on the cost which I can now start exploring...

As I narrow the options, I'll hope to ask better questions too. For now, I've got a starting point.

Thanks,

Steve

We're still toying with baseball/trading card type cards instead of postcards or more traditional photograph sizes. There are plenty of people who will print these front and back and they are even the same stock as trading cards.

This also allows us to release them as a "set" either available as a whole at certain special events or as single items at events so that people would need to attend future events to "collect 'em all."

Chris,

Interesting idea... a series.

I'll keep that in mind too, thanks.

That idea has popped up here and there inm the past, and I am always for it. I believe Ricky Jay had his hand in classic performers and freaks in a baseball card style. I may be incorrect, but I think it would be an incredibly good idea for current (by that I mean alive) performers to be included in such an endeavour.
