Mark and Tami Daniel ************************************************************************************************* KIDabra Conference 2007 News KIDabra 2007 Conference The 16th Year Pigeon Forge, TN Music Road Hotel Complex August 15 - 18, 2007 Terry Herbert, Magic Al, Chris Capehart, Steve Taylor, Jozo Bozo, Julian Franklin, Jim Kleefeld, Nathan J. Roberts, Chris Frings Senior Staff: Barry Mitchell, David Kaye, Sammy Smith, Trixie Bond, Ken Scott, Dave Risley, Mike Bent, Bruce Amato, Joe Lefler Executive Staff: Bruce Bray, Tate Elliott, Tim Sonefelt, David Allen, Ralph the Great, Scott Francis, Tess Andrews, Dennis Michael, Dave Hill, Gary Shelton And the list continues to grow! KIDabra Conference Lecture Spotlights 1. Spotlight on Mike Bent At the KIDabra Conference, the philosophy with our attendees is to spend quality time with great teachers, creative thinkers and top performers. What a shame to spend just an hour with someone at a convention lecture every few years when they have so much to teach. With that thought in mind, many on the KIDabra staff annually share new directions, new ideas and collectively much wisdom. For instance, since the wildly creative and funny Mike Bent started attending KIDabra a few years ago, he has become a popular staff member. He's always on target with his unique perspective and passionate enthusiasm for children's magic. He has appeared on all three of the KIDabra Live Session Evenings with original material, this August will mark his fourth. For many years he was one of Hank Lee's original magic shop elves, spent several years on the comedy club circuit and made numerous TV appearances. He has taught a class on comedy writing at Emerson Collage for nearly 20 years! After his daughter was born his priorities changed and he started developing shows for children with his special "bent." Out of those programs has come a wealth of original material, much he has released to the fraternity and some of which you can see at mikebentmagic.com (A couple of years ago while hosting the Saturday night gala show at KIDabra Mike's Card Magic for Dogs would become some of the funniest moments in KIDabra history, causing my usually reserve son Stephen to laugh so hard I was afraid that he would pass out!) In his first feature lecture at KIDabra enjoy: A Magical Year Mike Bent's 2007 KIDabra lecture will explore the events and holidays that make up a magical year! Christmas and Halloween are the big two, however Mike will present routines and theming ideas for all the events we perform at throughout the year, from Birthday Parties, Blue and Gold Cub Scout banquets, to the 4th of July and beyond. Learn to "think inside the calendar" and plan ahead to make special events even more special! Customizing for your clients means that the folks you perform for will love you for it. They'll even reward you by booking you again and again! Mike Bent's A Magical Year is a KIDabra Highlight Event! 2. Nathan J. Roberts: Making Your Show Memorable with Music Nathan J. Roberts wowed folks last year at the conference, during the Birthday Party Evening, with his original handling of the Axtell Drawing Board. Hailing from Louisiana, he is an expert in music production as well as a full time performer. Last year he made the KIDabra Conference sound good, this year it's his turn to make us all sound good in our shows: Being a performer, you have to touch people's emotions and make them feel good with your performance. Music helps enhance your character, routines, and stories. This lecture features ways to use music to evoke emotions, use as transitions, get your audience excited, and add spice to stale routines. Learn from producer/composer/magician, Nathan J. Roberts, the simplicity and power of using music in your magic. A KIDabra Feature Event! 3. Friday Afternoon Break-outs Gary Shelton's Be Prepared to Ad-lib Workshop Gary Shelton, the southern gentleman of comedy (also our auctioneer extraordinaire), will bring his “How to be funny for money” expertise to this years KIDabra. With real world experience writing for everything from “the Tonight show” to “Nixon’s Resignation” Gary guaranties you will “Laugh” “Learn” and “Utilize” this unique hands on class. Covering everything how to create, choose, add, tell and remember jokes. Add in Jozo Bozo with How to Put your Show in a Case and more breakouts to come! Stay tuned! The Friday Afternoon Hands On Breakouts are A KIDabra Exclusive Event! 4. Optional Marketing Sessions August 14 & 15 Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, 7:00 PM Dave and Dana Hill: A Fair Market Value Dave Hill is our longtime Dealer Chairman at the conference and proprietor of Balloons and Clowns. He always has the coolest stuff at his booth! This year Dave along with his son Dana pull back the curtain on a lucrative, little talked about field: The Fairs and Festivals circuit. This is a lucrative market with much growth potential. The Hill's don't just sugar coat this work, they expose the ups and downs of the life with insider info so good, the Fair Performer's Mafia may take them out before they can speak! ( OK, I made that part up, however this is good stuff!) Discover the income potential, who to contact for bookings, what you need prop wise for the shows, what kind of audiences to expect, what your expense are and back of the room sales potential. This is Don't Miss Marketing Magic Gold! Join Dave and Dana along with Julian Franklin with Look Twice Advertising, Ken Scott's How to Make a Six Figure Income doing Kid Shows! and Steve Taylor - A Baker's Dozen To Raise More Dough: 13 Tiny Tips To Transform Your Take-Home From Tepid To Terrific! Plus, Bruce Amato on The Daycare Dilemma and one more to come! Marketing Sessions start Tuesday evening and continuing throughout the day on Wednesday. Since the Conference Center has many lunch choices available this year, we're lowering the price and giving you the choices to choose your own lunch at a reasonable cost. Marketing sessions are only $92.00 5. KIDabra Audio CD Album 2007 On Sale Now Own an instant collectible - 8 KIDabra sessions recorded live at Conference on Audio CD. David has agreed to cover the event for the Journal. We look forward to learning more about this new event in the KIDshow world.
