I don't think you need to go to the expense of buying Million Dollar Knot. There is a thread here on the Café which has a great set of photographs:

I have some hair on my arms that hides the loops very well. If you are light skinned this might be a little problem, tanning helps. Sometimes I forget I have the loops on and I go to sleep, they stay fine. If you take a shower they are gone. It is the only gimmick I can carry around with a swimsuit and fry people.

That special knot in the other thread is... well, it's a regular knot for threads. It is called a "tailor's knot" in my part of the world. Kind of amazing that there are people who don't know it. Don't people sew on loose buttons anymore? Maybe they throw their clothes away and buy new ones. Smile

Anyway... I'm completely new to loops. I was wondering if there are any special advantages to buying the Finn Jon Loops over the Loops by Yigal Mesika that are sold everywhere? Durability maybe? Or even lower visibility perhaps? Or the quality guarantee?

Would I need the long or short ones for say... cutting a deck?

Are there other advantages besides saving money to tying your own loops?

Loops are a bit finicky. Finn Jon came up with the whole concept, and I can't say that I've ever tried his loops, but I have tried both loops and IT dispenser by Yigal Mesika. Maybe it's just me, but even using the million dollar knot, I'm still able to have one good loop out of five (they're snapping on the most ridiculous things). The loops that you buy on a card (pre-tied) seem much more durable to me. Maybe I just need to perfect my knot.

As you use your loops, they'll stretch out, provided they live that long, which they will if you take care of them. You can cut a deck with any loop, just mind your lighting. That being said, I once used loops when doing something for a magician buddy of mine. He had no idea what loops were and had no knowledge of IT. After the effect, which blew him away, he asked how I did it. A foot from my wrist, he couldn't see the loop, even after I pointed it out. So in close up magic, you can still get away with it.

There are several brands of IT, including, but not limited to:
Finn Jon
Yigal Mesika

Experiment, and see what's best for you.

I love loops put it's so annoying in the beginning when they break time after time, but if you carry them on you, you can do miracles almost anywhere.
