Dunno if anyone has seen the story of Pres Bush's mysterious watch removal in Albania recently. Apparently the watch was not stolen but my thought is that someone may have had a crack at it and so Bush took the watch off as a precaution. Why else would he take off the watch at the precise moment he did? If this is the case it would have made one hell of a souvenir. Thoughts ...?

I hadn't heard definitively that Bush took off his watch, except for this statement by Tony Snow:
"Tony Snow said Bush's watch was not stolen by someone in the crowd. 'The president put it in his pocket and it returned safely home,' Snow said . . . ." http://www.startribune.com/484/story/1241310.html. But -- no pictures yet of the watch returned safely home . . .

This was discussed today on "The Colbert Report" (I'm one of the heroes) and they showed video. It definitely looked to me like somebody was going for a watch steal, but the video was poor quality and I suppose it's possible he put it in his pocket (though I don't think so!). I searched for this thread to see if someone had a link on YouTube (couldn't find it there either).

Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKDdF6vfjoo
Fifty-six seconds in there looks like an attempt for a watch steal. But this is not the same video shown on Colbert (who had a better angle). Right after the apparent watch steal, his hands come down. Maybe it was loosened and then he pocketed it, I dunno. What's more amazing is how much Albanians seem to love him. Well, they can have him!

This is a interesting clip.
Thanks for posting. As 'Cain' explained it was not stolen. Bush just is aware of simple life. Everyone touching him arm and wrist. He is a smart one. Especially as he is the president and knows a bit about security lol. It also looks like a really nice watch. I would have done the same. I it looked like he had a leather band on. However...From watching the video of the user before 'Cain' it does look like someone grabs his wrist in a very watch stealable way. If that makes sense. On 56sec watch his left wrist and a mans arm is going in for the watch steal. It looks too for just someone to be holding his wrist. Awesome Clip. Live on the street attempted watch stealing.

I saw this on the news and was just thinking about how easy a watch steal could be in that very moment. I had just finished watching Greg Wilson's On the Spot- it has a couple ways to succesfully jack a watch. Bush is such a heckler.

Is it me, or does the video trying to show that Bush put his watch in his pocket:
1. Not look like Bush and 2. Make you wonder where this view came from when I can't see this second camera. I'm thinking this was made to make the President look better than being a victim in some digital dexterity. Just how it looks, I mean this is the same guy who almost choked to death on snack food. Just saying is all.... |
