I need to be able to secure a PK device (the big heavy one 2in x 3in) to my leg right above my knee and still maintain some flexability. Ace bandages don't hold on secure enough, duct tape does not feel to good on the skin, and taping it on my boxers allows it to slide to either side of my leg. Do any of you have any good ideas?
Thnx, :kewl:

Like you, I tried several methods of wearing it under the pants, but it always felt awkward and looked strange. When I hit a roadblock, I tend to step back and look at things from a different direction.
I use the ace bandage around the leg holding a shim. When I need the magnet, I adhere it to the shim (from outside the pants. As I only use this setup when I'm at a table, no one is looking at my leg, and I have ample opportunity to take the magnet from my pocket or case and put it in place. I keep the magnet in a black sock, and usually wear black pants, so it blends in nicely. The beauty of this is that I don’t have a 3 pound magnet strapped to my leg all night. The weakness, there is a 3 second get ready. Tony |

Tony
I used a similar solution a few years back, but one MAJOR catastrophe occurred when, trying to site the M5, it flew up and jammed into a metal corner-piece of the table! Even after the event, when everyone had left, it took some removing! I switched to a neoprene knee brace, oversized, and slipped up above the knee. The problem? Won't stay in place when you walk from table to table. Any other solutions would be gladly received. S

I have a solution for you guys, but I got it after I got my right leg amputated from a motorcycle accident. My prosthesis has been a godsend for me, because it solved all sorts of problems like the ones you've described. I feel lucky to have it. Prior to that I used Docsteves method. Large neoprene knee brace, but I sewed the magnet into the brace. Worked for many years.
My mom says I'm reprehensible, I think I'm perfectly hensible.

Very good ideas guys, but I need to be able to walk around with it on for several hours plus I need to know which pole is facing up. The knee brace idea will probably work best for me. Maybe I could tape it on the out side of the brace. Ive never worn a brace before, do you guys feel like this might work?
thnx, :kewl:

I like that idea Tony I, I never thought of it like that, you could pretty much leave it on any metal surface under the table untill your ready to use it or on a shim in your clothing. I have had no end of trouble with my knee sticking to chairs, tables and god knows what else... I have wiped my credit and atm cards on numerous occasions- once in a bar a lady asked me if I could stop her using her credit cards, a quick scan over the magnet proved that I did in fact have the power. lol- I love the effects that are possible with these magnets but the square bulge is noticable, you can buy a pk magnet which instead of a square shape is an ark shape this would be easier to hide as it blends into the curve of the leg or wrist.

This link scroll to bottom of page motor magnets. They are arc shaped and you can use 2 or 3 if needed but 1 is just as strong as the pro5.

*clears throat* ..
THE place to buy magnets is here: http://www.magnet4sale.com especially if you're in the market for an M5 type magnet. N40 Grade: $7.50 each ! http://www.magnet4sale.com/xcart4/home.p......;page=11 Want an almost unheard of grade N50 ? They got that too. Check the prices and you won't argue with me. I assure, the quality is as good or better than any magnet from amazingmagnets.com or wondermagnets or kjmagnetics.com, but the price is a mere fraction. However, I'm a little sad to report that apparently, their prices have gone up some lately !!Also, don't worry about any "minimum orders", if you read their home page, a simple phone call can get you any quantity, even 1, of any magnet you want. I have dealt with them over the past few years and wouldn't even consider anywhere else now. That said, there is one minor exception: for magnet rings, of the wedding band style, you want to go to http://www.supermagnetman.net ; again, their rings are equal quality of Blacks or Wizards (IF you buy the chrome finish, I won't claim this for silver or gold finishes !), but a fraction of the price. I like Tony's idea of using the shim, though I'd combine that and still wrap the M5 in a some sort of black cloth pocket to minimize possible tells, glare, reflections, and so forth. Otherwise, I've just used either an Ace bandage, or the neoprene solution. Both sort of work, but the Ace bandage would start to slip after a little while - quite annoying. I suggest nailing it into the top of your patella ..

I have always placed the magnet in a sock and safety pinned the top of the sock to the top of my pants and just let that magnet float around free and loose in my pants. When I need it I reach under the table and move it from behind my knee where it likes to hang out to the top of my leg near my knee. That has worked like a champ for me for 20 years.

At a PEA convention several years ago one of the attendees had a heavy duty magnet strapped to his leg. Unfortuantely he got too close to someone's electric wheelchair and was immediately married to the chair..Took a lot of effort to affect a divorce..was hilarious at the time..guess you had to be there..

I have one routine where I must carry several magnets in my suit -- spaced apart so they do not get each other --- and early on I learned not to go into the audience if there are ferrous based chairs or tables.
NOW -- even with the strength of the magnets -- what about shims. WHAT is the best material for shims.... Let's say something like a nail that would fit in a straw, or stalk of someting like it like a quill pen? Hide-ability in the shim counts.... I one had several dozen (and still have) some 1/16 inch 1.5" long rods with magnetism though the diameter made -- but that can be finicky if used as a shim and you cannot control the other main magnet's polarity.
