CD promotional package can be a powerful marketing tool and the good thing is it is dynamic in nature.
Anyone using this as your marketing tool? Let's discuss what we can come up with ... from the cover of the CD, to the contents inside and from having slide shows to action videos. I believe this thread can be of great help to many. |

Marshall, are the items packaged together with the Cd? Or are they all inside the CD? How's your CD cover? Your promo kit looks good.

I have a lot of items on the on one CD-ROM.
To avoid a lot of printing materials. I leave a lot of that up to the person who is receiving the package when they view the CD. In the envelope, I only include tear sheets of recent articles, a one-sheet (even though its on the CD), cover letter, and business card. I have my contact info on the CD face.

Are the materials for your music or magic show. Marshall? Or you have two CDs, one for each.

For our Knotty Bits Show, we do a DVD promo pack.
The DVD is just that- A DVD with a promotional clips and one full segment from the act. The DVD itself has a label that simply has the name of the show on it over a closeup shot of broken colored glass (Our glasswalking routine is the clip that we use for the promo) The front of the DVD case is a shot of our banner. The back is our reviews and references and contact information. Inside the front cover of the DVD case is printed literature. An overview of the show with our mission statement is in the front. Then a brief biography of the show, myself and Sylver highlighting our experience and what was the thought process behind the show. Lastly is a note about safety measures specific to our act including our training, certifications and fire performers insurance. I like the combination of media. If they don't have time right away to watch a DVD, they have printed material that they can glance at. When the case is closed, they are looking at our reviews about how good the show is. They look at the DVD and they remember- "Oh yeah...The glasswalker act..." Right now, this is the only show that we do that has a full promotional package. We do a lot of other work, and we are in the process of developing a new pack that covers the full range of services available. For now, this one is keeping us plenty busy. I never considered doing it on CD though. I'll definately have to look into that! Gwyd |

The DVD you have, Gwyd, is almost similar and equivalent to the CD, isn't it. You have a good promo pack there.

Well...The DVD is JUST a DVD. No additional material besides the clips. A CD would be cheaper to produce and can contain DVD readable video.
I'll have to think about it. Thanks! Gwyd |

Yes, the benefit of the CD is that we can add in more info for the clients. And big savings on printing costs too. PDF files are useful as they are printable by clients.

Track 1 always gets screwed up. Plus I use CDr's because you can update your information faster by adding the new materials as you go along. Plus a one-on-one CD burner is cheaper than a one-on-one DVD burner.

Do you guys use a CD/DVD replicator (personally owned), a service like http://www.customflix.com , or keep a file folder on your PC and burn them as you need them(adding a label with a home grown program) ????
I think mailing potential clients a promo CD/DVD (especially mini's) with a mix of video and text promotional material is a wonderful idea. I think I would use a postcard or letter to narrow down the leads a bit and then send qualified targeted leads the CD/DVD. I can definitely see benifits to using one or the other depending if your promo material is more print or video focused. What do you all think? Comments??? |

I've done the mini-CDs (business card CDs).
They are nice, however, you must be very clear what they can be used on/played on. I have a CD one-on-one replicator. Haven't gone for a DVD yet, since I can't authorize DVD's on my laptop. Maybe-someday. I thermal print my CDs. But since the process can be slow, I probably will go back to cores. Which I used for a very long time with EPs and Demos. They are easy to print and quick to apply. Plus you don't have to worry about the adhesive coming off when sticking it in a player. I'll probably use a Red CDr with the white core.

Marshall...some people say geek like it is a bad thing...of course, it is not. I have a three year old flat panel iMac that has a DVD burner on it. iLife with iMovie, iTunes, and iDVD has worked wonderfully for developing and editing my own promo videos and burning them onto DVDs, and they are so easy to use and integrate together). I worked behind the counter demoing magic tricks at Stevens magic back in the late 70's and early 80's. Now, I do demo videos for them to put on their website (plus I get demo videos from others and put those up as well). Ain't magic wonderful...the extra mad money helps pay for my other "therapy"... an '07 Harley-Davidson Dyna.
