I’ve been doing a little impromptu stuff using a little voodoo doll and a trick called Lizzy’s hand...So far I’ve been getting some good reactions...Do you have any more ideas for effects that I could add to give me a third and a forth for my act???

How about posting some of your ideas for effects/routines here in the cafe?
That is what it’s for isn’t it? I think a lot of us would be interested. _________________ Ray Banks

Hi everyone!
You’re right! This is late and I do appologize! I thought it would be fun to use a coffin as the main theme in a Halloween Show! Magician begins dressed as Grim Reaper with long blade sickle in hand. Reapers helper is in coffin. Reaper begins with corpse in coffin-your helper dressed the part. Extracts one and uses to float cigarrette from helper’s pocket.(I.T.R.) Reaper continues with helper’s eyeballs; extracts them, and begins entertaining billiard ball routine. Works his way to the fingers. Thimble routine or sixth finger to use as routine. Down to the groin area for adult humor. Goshman’s adult version gimmick could have funny applications. Reaper attempts to levitate helper in the end, but is unsuccessful. In disgust with his failure,he "chops" leg of helper off at the knee, picks up discarded leg, and pours candy from it! Passes candy out to audience. All of this themed to funny music such as, "Monster Mash". This idea, really in it’s infant stages! Perhaps some of you have some ideas that could help refine it! Sincerely, Steve Landavazo

My best Halloween show was for a church youth group held at an old (haunted) house. Besides the scary rooms, etc. we had a show in a barn loft. We worked it like the old spook night shows.
I was a lecturer on a strange cult. I showed some of their strange religious artifacts. I poured mixed after shaves in a brass bowl that had a spoonful of salt in it. When lit, the flame is green. I did some hypnosis tricks and from the ones who performed well, I chose my secret assistant for the "real" hypnosis test. She went under deeply but I couldn’t wake her up. This is very scary. I just set her behind some hay bales and she became my special effects worker. While in her trance, she spoke the words of the Elder gods that the cult worshiped. (H.P.Lovecraft) It became obvious that I was actually one of the cult! I donned the robe and began the chant. The lights went out (remember my special effects girl) except for a red light on my face. With a shout, the red light shut off. Helpers all around the perimeter set off flashes to charge rice pellets (glue dropped in dry rice) painted with luminous paint. The rice pellets were then tossed around the loft. We wisely had barricaded the exit hole because some of the brave teens were wanting to climb down in the pitch black! In the darkness I cried out, "He has come!" I had made a large wolf-like head of styrofoam and papier mache. It was also painted with luminous paint and charged with the last flash. It was on a twelve foot pole and "floated" out over the heads of the audience. When the screaming was at its peak, we turned on the lights and had a discussion about the power of fear. Ta-da. |

I am putting together a show based on the lizzys hand effect, I am taking it a bit further by resurecting lizzy thru ritual, I have added the french arm chopper so I can get the human hand to sacrifice to the dark ones, if I can find some kevlar thread I want to do some small it effects befor I use a substatution chair to take me away and let in lizzy, who while holding a bloody blanket swaddled in her arms starts smiling as the Maggots(rice) falls from her parted lips, (she has been dead a bit) then from the blanket comes the bloody axe........lights out
scream..... that is the basics, I am still filling in the rest, but it will be a routine based on the raising of her, with no other distractions. any coments welcome on how I can make it better. this was a last minut dump on me so im scrambling lol Michael MacDonald |

This year for Halloween I developed a Trio of effects based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. The first a Spirit Lock haunted Key combo with a buried alive theme. The second a presentation for Martin Lewis' Technicolor Prediction using the story of the Purloinrd Letter and the third an routine inspired by David Parr's "Evening with the Borgias" where four kids from the audience got to tempt fate and see if they would survive "The Masque of the Red Death".
They all played very well (considering I sent 4 kids to hideous plague induced deaths onstage) and am considering creating a new library show around it for next years holiday.

Well, it's four years since the last post here so I think I'll raise it from the dead..haha.
I'm working up a show for Halloween 2006 with a Don Drake backdrop, razor wire and a few unclean spirits. Anyone else for this year? I'd love to exchange ideas. |

I'm actually working on my first parlor mentalism show (with a touch of the bizarre) that I intend to premiere in October. I'm rehearsng like crazy and I'm running a local ad or two in September and early October. I've already got my character's name, secured the domain name and created my ads and business cards. Hmm. Have I forgotten anything? Oh yeah. The magic!
I'm rehearsing nine effects but I'll almost certainly cut a few to keep the show to a reasonable length. Good to have some back-up though. I'm still trying to decide on some bizarre effects that will work well. So far I've been thinking of "Homicide" by Outlaw Effects (a flawed masterpiece, IMHO). It's not really bizarre but with the right handling I think it can be nice and creepy. Time to resurrect the Halloween thread. What's everybody doing?
I'm selling my hardcover autographed limited edition copy of Jerome Finley's "Thought Veil"

We are busy writing the scripts for Castle Blood and adding new items to M.D.I.M. Productions' product line as I type this. I have an "added challenge" that goes beyond our regular season and tours this year, but that is all I can say about it until the press release goes to the proper parties. At this point, the tour will definitely have three new effects in different scenes with the strong likelihood of a fourth effect.
We had a new line entertainer to relieve me of some of my duties, but it looks like he will be in Europe during the season this year. Other than that, we are "H365.25" around here. We worked the International Halloween Costume and Party Show, will be in Tell City, Indiana for the Ironstock Gathering this coming weekend and in Columbus, Ohio for the Midwest Haunters Convention. (I am a vendor and am presenting a magic program at both coming events.) Halloween magic is my business and I couldn't be happier with the turn things have taken from an artistic/creative standpoint. (More money would be nice...but hey, I'm staying true to my "artistic vision" or something like that.)Hopefully, we will be visiting new events in new states next year and some new products as well as the full version of my book will be available for sale. If you are interested in Haunt Gatherings/cons, pm me about HauntX in Los Angeles.
I can't make it out to IS or MWHC, real job gets in the way of that.

I was thinking it was too early to work on Halloween performances but now I better start planning (after reading this thread).
