Guys, how are you managing passwords to all the ebooks you accumulate through the years? Are you writing them out in case you want to review it months from now? There's got to be a better way! Thanks.

I add the password to the filename of the e-book. Very quick, very easy and if you can find the e-book, you'll find the password!

Well, as a publisher I must say that passwords on PDFs is not a customer friendly solution exactly for the very reason you are asking about. Imagine somebody with dozens potentially hundreds of ebooks in his library. How on earth should he remember all these passwords? And even if they are put somewhere for easy lookup, or as Iain suggests to write them into the file name, how inconvenient it is to type it in everytime you want to read the ebook.

In my opinion, people who put passwords on PDFs have not thought beyond their own couple of PDFs. And anybody who thinks that the passwords actually protect against piracy is also misinformed. For one, programs which remove the password protection are readily available, and second the password can just as easily be shared as the file itself.

At you will not see any passwords on PDFs. preserving magic one book at a time.

Just use a program to remove the password from the file. There are free programs or trial versions that will allow you to decrypt PDF files. Use Google and you should find one.

I'm with Chris on this one. Passwords on magic e-books are part of some magic writer's paranoia. If I get an e-book with a password and it wasn't advertised as coming that way, I immediately return it and request a refund. At The Magic Nook, we protect our e-books with basic copying security, but no passwords. Even then, if a magician writes me with a good enough reason for needing less protection, I will send him (or her) a completely unprotected version (at least electronically unprotected- copyright protection is another thing).
