Any reviews on this one yet?
Maybe from some of you speed readers? |

No reviews yet but this caught my attention. Fogel made NO claims, letting the audience figure out what they believed. Sound familiar?

Fogel actually started that because his promoter once suggested he did have powers (or either Fogel himself got a little carried away - I can't recall) and one of the Sunday Tabloids exposed Fogel which did him a lot of damage at the time.

The book is beautifully produced. Its a visually beatiful book. The beginning is actually Fogels unfinished autobiography and is a joy to hear about him in his own words. Also the amount of unbelievably accurate predictions he made before, during and after the war is scary.I got hooked on Fogel 20 odd years ago after buying headline hunter and million dollar pieces of cardboard now this book is finally here I can find out the full story.

I have Million Dollar Pieces of Cardboard and I just loved Fogel’s Just Call Your Number. Everything about it is just so cool.
Aside from that and the stuff with the change bag, is there any additional Fogel Billet Switch-Work in the book? If so, how much and how good is it? Would you say it’s worth the price of the book just to get my hands on that extra stuff? I must know… |

Hi Elliott
Nearly finished the book it is fanastic I love mental history an this has some amazing stories, kept getting himself in serious trouble.Any way there about 5 billet effects you already have 2 from million dollar. The other 3 are great but no undiscovered techniques just just masterful handling of simple ones given the Fogel touch. I look forward to getting it. I think a large part of its value will be in how he thinks, and how he constructs his effects and presentations. I got a lot out of his interview in "the 13 Steps..." and figure this will be even more enlightening.

This book deserves to be in any serious mentalist's library.
It is part autobigraphy, part biography and part explanations of his routines. You also get a look into the mind of one of Mentalism's early superstars. Chuck Hickok |

While I found the Fogel book of interest and was pleased to see the historical perspective surrounding Fogel's career, I found this book to be a dreary read. I think this has more to do with the editing than the actual writing or subject matter.
Too many voices jump in and out from various perspectives, and the result was, too me, off-putting. As a professional performer, I was hoping to find more ana-lysis of the thinking behind Fogel's routines. I'm less interested in his methods than I am in why he chose to do things the way in which he did. There are a few insights included in this regard, but not many. Perhaps these were things Fogel didn't share with others. In this book, the basic routines are described, often with Fogel's patter included, and the methods are given. For those looking for well-fleshed out routines this is a wealth of information that can, with thought and work, be made to play well for today's audiences. The biographical sections are valuable, and parts, written in Fogel's own words, convey a sense of the times in which he was working and the various challenges he was forced to surmount to become a leading performer of his day. A good book, valuable as an historic document, but could have been much better with a literary eye towards more judicious editing. - entity

In short, this book is not for performers who want to study Fogel's effects but for historians, is it?

Not at all Jay both Fogels effects and methods are in the book the history of the guy is what makes it a fantastic read you wont be disappointed.

If you'll re-read my post, it says that the effects are described and the methods are explained, and that there is a wealth of information there for those looking for well-tested material. My issues are with the editing and with the scarcity of insights into why Fogel chose the material he did and why he chose to do it the way in which he did it. - entity
