I have been combining hitman and recap for almost a year now! I showed all the guys up in London when I recorded Bright Ideas at the beginning of the year. I use a bic biro pen and a morgan silver dollar, it looks and works great!

Paul cummins performs an intriguing trick called "Tap a lack" on disc#2.
Can someone tell me on wich issue of Magic Magazine was it published?
Michel.

As he's starting the effect, the date flashes on screen, it's July, 2005. It's a killer effect!

I have many DVD's by really great magicians. Usually, when I make the purchase I'm thinking ( as I'm sure many of you do ) that if I can get one effect that I'll actually use on a regular basis, I've got my money's worth. I feel like a kid in a candy store with this set. Every time I watch, I find another effect that I know I'll use all the time. Thank you, Josh.

How about the difficulty level?

There are like 90 items so I guess there must be some easier and some harder ones. But what about on average? Do you think one has to know quite a lot of sleights before the effects in this set?

Thanks in advance,
Houston
please pardon my English

A basic knowledge of sleights would be helpful. Some great stuff here, but even if you are a raw beginner, you will get something out of this terrific set.

Love the series, but where is that qtip?

This set is very good. untill now I had not seen Josh work. I enjoyed watching him and the others. Rune Klan is riot! There is not a piece of junk that I can see in the whole serries. If you want something that will keep you busy for awhile you should get this set.

Tons of useful sleights on here. In particular, for those who do Triumph, you just have to see Miumph. Marvelous effect. Also the 4 way false "casino like" cut is fabulous for those who do gambling routines.

I was lucky to be at L & L when this was shot. One great trick after another, and so much fun!

Over and over I kicked myself for "missing" a great trick when it was published in MAGIC. Some things just don't read as strong as they are and when you see them performed you realize how powerful they are. This set of DVDs is full of this kind of thing. But then, remember Josh has been very carefully selecting great magic to put into his Column, and then, he went through that and picked the best of the best.

If you are a working magician, you just have to have these DVDs. First, you will be entertained just watching the tricks. Then, your will be taught how to do them. Of course, not all of us have the chops to do everything, and some things are not "right" for us. But, I suspect that if you don't get three or four strong workers that you can use in your work... it's your fault.

Josh is many years my Junior, but I admire the guy enormously. He has great talent, dedication, discipline, and he's tall and handsome. I think I'll kill him.

Josh I hope you get to read this, I own the DVDs and love them, now the wife did the unthinkable. She threw away a few of my issues of Mag Magizine, and the one with the cut out of the "Wishing Paper" away. Does anyone have a copy of this bill. Or do I need to try to fin the Back issue? Any help would be great. Josh I love the Wishing Papaer idea, and love Johns TTless version of this.

WOW!! I just got done watching volume 1 and I'm emotionally drained. I just sit here in slack-jaw amazement. What great great material. I cannot wait to get into volumes 2 and 3...but, volume 1 by itself could last a lifetime.

This DVD was made the way all instructional DVDs should be made. High quality professional video recording of high quality professional hard-hitting jaw-dropping entertaining material. (And, entertaining to watch also.) And the "Moves" section? What a great idea. Sheer genius.

Not an ounce of fluff or filler on this volume 1. Seeing the quality production and material of this volume, I expect to see as much on volumes 2 and 3. I own many many instructional magic DVDs. If "Talk About Tricks" has not just moved into the top spot, it certainly is (and will stay) well-within the top 10.

This material is soooo good that it is really impossible to pick out a single favorite or even a "top 3". I was hooked from the get-go after seeing "Oil and Water". But, if you held a gun to my head and forced me to name my favorite "3" effects and my favorite "4" moves (please don't ask me to narrow the list down any tighter), they would include

Effects: "Oil and Water" (various contributors), Rune Klan's "Impromptu Hit Man" (a great one-coin routine involving strong misdirection) and Richard Volmer's "242 Deal" (A 10-card poker demonstation without a Johah Card)

Moves: Larry Jennings's "Erdnase Break Subtlety" (invisible and naturally held break), Reinhard Mueller's "Miumph" (an easy to do Triumph routine with optical turnover fooler), Luis Otero's "Divided Shuffle" (a false shuffle par excellance) and Bob Farmer's" Squist" (a logical and optically deceiving "turnover" move).

Tomorrow my "favorites" list might change; all the material is that good! (Oh, alright! Add in William Eston's in-the-hands "False Faro" shuffle.)

I wish all instructional material (not just magic) could capture the format that Josh used in these DVDs. No dreary boring robotic performances or explanations here.

The cherry on the top? Howabout if Josua could get permisison from Richard Kaufman (and/or collaborate with him) to re-release all these great "Talk About Tricks" items in a compilation book?

Just, IMHO.

Mike

P.S. As an aside, remember your favorite teacher in school? The teacher whose class you enjoyed and actually looked forward to going to each day? If teachers in schools could (and would) teach in the manner that Josh (and company) teach on this DVD, the "drop out" rate in high schools would plummet and students would fight to stay in class and learn. Education and literacy problem solved!! Oh! Did I mention that I thoroughly enjoyed this volume 1 DVD and can't wait to watch (and learn from) volumes 2 and 3? (grin)

Wow! I'm amazed...thanks guys. Justin...you da man...hope to see you at the fest this year!

And bring your wife so my girlfriend has someone to talk to again!

Paisa...in response to your question about wishing paper, I BELIEVE a mechanism was set up as a courtesy to Magic Live attendees (where Lovick taught the trick) so that you could email illegallyyours@magicmagazine.com and I THINK you will get a pdf of the file in response.

Thanks guys!
