Hi! I'm new here and this is my first post...
I am planning on purchasing a Hopping Half set. At my local magic store I only see a Johnson for $55, is it worth the price compared to the Tango brand? Thank you, Sahun Hong |

Worth every penny. I paid $60 for mine. With the Johnson set you get 2 expanded s****s and a sun and moon.

I agree. I used to have a Sterling set. I finally bought a Johnson a few months ago and you can feel the quality difference. I don't even really do Hopping Halves that much. It's just really convenient to pay that price for 2 e['s and the sun and moon. All I really use is the e[ for the half, and it was still worth it.

Welcome to the Café Sahun Hong! I think most everyone would agree the price of the set is nominal compared to the quality and versatility you receive from the set.
Where I go, so do my coins.....

BEing a dealer.. in my personal opionon Tango has good quality in only a few coins.. The sets not being of higher quality.. JOhnson is the way you woul dwant to go.. in my personal opinion.. Sasco would be my second. But I woul dhave to agree with everyone else.. For the money you will be happy with the Johnson set.

Welcome Sahun, to the Café! You'll find some great people here.
Johnson coins are considered the best coins made. Since your new to magic (I think), you're starting out with top of the line stuff. That's a great way to go, if you can afford it. Just make sure you don't spend them! Mark. |

I'm not new to magic
It's just that this was my first time at a magic shop I mostly did cards, but I guess I could say I'm semi-new to coins. |

I think the bigger issue is whether you get a set that uses a expanded-['s or not. Johnson's uses e-['s, but many of the cheaper HH sets do not use e-['s, and you will get less use(in other tricks) from such a set.

My friend told me that Sasco is the best. I'll be ordering a Sasco set soon!

I bought a cheap set a while ago and I regreted it. From the cheap set the shells were horrible and broke in like a few days; they were about as thin as tin foil. Johnson has the best quality coins that you can find other than Schoolcraft and Todd Lassen of course but they are really expensive. Im saving up for a set from todd. |

I was just joking
I have the 21cent trick from Johnson, it's very good quality. I also have shimmed, expanded penny shells from Johnson for 69cents each, my magic store worker "hooked me up" Sahun |

I feel left out of this discussion being a UK coin guy. Quite often we are left out of things because the amounts sold in a population of 60 million are not cost effective enough.
However, I would agree with all the above posters who said, "buy the best you can afford". This is my philosophy for everything, not just coins. As the saying goes - You gets whats you pays for! I ama big fan of Eddie Gibson coins as they are truly great quality and durable. There are small engineering firms who will make gimmicks for you if you explain carefully what you want. If it does not require any re-tooling, it can also work out cheaper than buying a set that is of limited use because it is not available in the local currency. My hopping halves is UK 10p and 2p & has 2 ES's for the 2p and one for the 10p so is a 5 peice set and cost me the equivalent of about $70 but is a beautifully crafted item. |

Always go with Johnson, for the small difference in price you cant go wrong.
Sasco puts out an inferior product.

Well, if you want something very special call Lassen. He can make you a Morgan Dollar set that is incredible. It is more than the others, however the quality is nothing short of perfection.
