I am now looking for a small PA system that uses batteries (not rechargeable ones) and have been looking at the Anchor Minivox system. It looks like a great system but I just do not trust anything that has a built in battery that has to be recharged. Every systen I have ever had with rechargeable batteries has given me problems- every last one of them. Ex: Apollo, Mipro, Fender, Paso have all had problems. The Anchor Minivox can run off of either regular batteries or rechargeable ones which is why I am interested in it.

My question to anyone that has one is....how reliable is this unit in terms of running off of regular batteries? I am only interested in knowing about using the unit with regular store bought batteries / not ones that have to be recharged. They claim that you can use it for up to 35 hours on 9 "C' batteries? Does this seem to be true? Will the system handle a large group of 200 kids? How highly would you recommend the systen?

This seems to be about the only system I can find that I trust (Anchor is an excellent company) that does not require electricity.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Here is a link for more info on the system.....

While I agree with your hesitancy on the built-in rechargable batteries, DUDE, you should not have sold me that Anchor "Explorer Pro" system. That is exactly what you're looking for (aside from the rechargable factor). I haven't tried the Anchor "Minivox", but with the right mic (I didn't notice, are there inputs for an iCue2?), it might be perfect for you. The quality definitely goes with the name, that's for sure.

Hi Todd,

I sell these and it will definately run 30 hrs on regular batteries but I don't think it has enough volume to handle 200 kids. This is my opinion and not necessarily Anchors.

Steve...I am glad that you still are so in love with the bigger sytem that I sold you. I am looking for something very small as in the unit I mentioned above. I usually do not take outdoor shows but I was offered 20 shows for a church mission group and will need something that requires no electricity and it has to be very small for a number of reasons. The explorer is too big in size!

Eldon....are there any problems with the unit ever "cutting out" with dead spots? I have an Anchor An130 and it works great but has to be plugged in. I have never had a sinlge problem with it whatsoever! When I hear the word "batteries required" it makes me nervous! So many of these smaller systems have "drop outs" but I have never had a single problem with anything made by Anchor!

Todd,

No drop out problems. Anyway, I have had no complaints and I have sold quit a few.

Todd,
I used an Anchor MiniVox system for years and still have it. It still works great! Goes a LONG time on regular batteries and will easily carry 100-200 people. Used in for years doing afterschool programs. Get a headset mic. I use a Countryman from Joe Lefler. He sells the adaptor cord for the unit. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Todd,

How big is the Minivox compared with the small size of the Explorer Pro? Can you also hook an iCue2 to the Minivox?

I got my minivox yesterday delivered by UPS. I opened it up and thought, "what is this little thing goig to do?" It is awesome for such a little unit. Talk about lightweight! I took it with me and used it in a library show and it worked great. I loved not having to plug it in! Just turn it on and you are done....how cool is that? No drop outs either!

Thanks for the input! Looks like this will be going with me to all of my b-days, library programs, and smaller venues!
