Silverking, he's a lawyer...
Just kidding, love you Arnon. The way I interpret what he is saying is that in his experience juries not very intelligent, but he does not treat them that way. He does not play down to them based on assumptions. He credits them with intelligence. In short, I feel he is saying that he treats them with respect. Tony |

Silverking:
IN GENERAL, it is true that jurors are not usually the most intelligent people. However, IN PARTICULAR, I have had many jurors who were exceptionally intelligent individuals, and purposely served their jury duty even though they could have easily avoided it - they wanted to experience what it was like to act as a juror in a real case. Often they were forepersons; for example, I purposely did not peremptorily challenge one juror even though they had previously worked for the District Attorney's office, because I needed a juror who could understand how to interpret a confusing jury instruction and a CA Criminal Code section - she ended up as the forelady, and I prevailed in that case with a unanimous not guilty verdict. She did my job for me in the jury deliberation room The point is that although jurors IN GENERAL may not be the sharpest tools in the drawer, IN PARTICULAR, SOME JURORS ARE! I cannot and must not assume otherwise. So for me to "talk down" to a jury with bright individuals in it is, in my opinion, suicidal advocacy. I hope that explains the seeming contradiction you noticed. Arnon P.S. Tony - nice try "explaining" what I had said, and on another issue, please, I started the phrase on this forum "and the beat goes on..." so please credit me with it if you're going to use it. Even Jim/Jack used it without my permission http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/searc......=4970191 |

Here is an idea...most magic effects do have a logical inconsistency. If you vanish a coin you generally move it from one hand to another for example. In the real world people take money out of their pocket and hand it over. Most forces in mentalism also have a logical inconsistency...why not just read their minds?
Instead of "correcting" errors maybe we could work on ways to handle the inconsistency in a particular effect. This could be done with presentational ideas for example. Sometimes an inconsistency cannot be dealt with...that's fine. Still, we are spending a lot of energy trying to get the last word in. So, by the power invested in my by Baba Gene Nibo and his tome on voodoo magick I declare that everyone here officially got the last word ;_) On most threads in this forum people are getting along...just drop the petty bickering please. Just drop it. If someone can't let go we have two options: 1 Report the post as off-topic...this works most of the time. 2 Do what the Amish do...shun them. Just don't reply to their ego-posturing. There are some here that if you look at their posts in the last thirty days all they want to do is argue. If we ignore them enough we can continue to build a nice place to discuss and learn. It is hard to argue with yourself. Let's put our energy into improving the effects and continuing the trend in Penny For Your Thoughts of getting along. So, how could this effect be improved...does anyone have any energy to put into that? |

You guys are still here?
Even though I'm not participating anymore (until now), I have read everything, and some of the information is definitely worthwhile. Not enough of it, but thank you all for the little that has been. Anabelle |

I threw the three coins... and my nephew whose ears are more sensitive than the Bionic Woman's decided to run in and claim the money as his own before I had a chance to see how they landed.

There is a fairly well known probability problem (but not extremely well known) that is not as transparent (many a bright person has been confused by it), that involves a choice out of three items, that you may want to look into. You could possibly use as the basis of a routine. You'd have to do a bit of work to come up with something workable, but may be worth putting the effort in to do so (and it would be a shame to waste the effort in a 'forum experiment'.
This is a public forum so I'm not going to name what it is. PM me if you want to know. |

The forum experiment was just something fun I wanted to do for those who were not familiar with it. I know of other more impresssive things that naturally I didn't want to waste as a forum experiment. Thanks, Glossolalia, I PMed you.
