Hi gang! I am working on a new character, the pirate one is done all over now, dang. I saw a brilliant performance today by a visiting magician at a library and he showed me a blendo made of bandanas and it would be perfect for the character (I made a 20th century silks out of bandanas) and he told me he got it from a David Ginn book. I could just make it up but that would be kinda like cheating David Gin and that isn't nice. Do any of you know which of David Ginn's books this is found in? It may be someone besides Ginn but that was what I was told. Thank you.

I'm sure some will disagree, but I hardly think making one up yourself would be unethical.
Hey, make it your own - add a skull-and-crossbones somewhere in the routine. Get a parrot in there somehow. |

Sorry, did the pirate years ago. I'm now going for a miner character since I live in an area where they do mining. If you say it is okay Ross I'll just do it!

Magic Santa,
I just checked Colorful Magic for Children and Kidbiz and didn't see it in either of those. It might be Professional Magic for Children. I leant it out so I can't say for sure--but I believer there is at least one Blendo effect in Professional Magic for Children. Cesar |

I think it's on the videos. Tell me more about the effect. He's had a few effects with bandanas. Even a couple that are variations of blendos.

The way he did it was he had four bandanas and just picked them up and did a nice switch and, viola, the bandana blendo. He then used it to cover his prop case. When he told me it was Gin I didn't feel bad about using it (the magician in question was just passing through and does not work here other than library shows and I'm not stepping on those except for older kids). I realize I could just sew one up and do it but I kind of stand up for magicians who create things and people see it and use it but the creator doesn't get anything out of it so I want to make sure I get the routine from Gin.
What is the tape with the bandanas? I'm putting together the miner character, which is great because miners use bandandas, rope, have a hat, have coins, I'll use a gold lump with the egg bag and so forth. It also will work for the festivals around here as well. |

That effect is something he calls "Cheat Blendo". It's on the video, "It's about Time!", and also taught in the book that comes with the video. I think he has also published it in some of his newer books / lecture notes, too.
BTW, he has another bandana effect on "Live Kidbiz 1", called "The Sun and the Moon." David Ginn's website David has said that his handling for "Cheat Blendo" is slightly different than the handling that Duane Laflin uses with his "Four Square Blendo". David also taught his handling for "Cheat Blendo" first. - Donald P.S. Miner theme. Barry Mitchell has an effect called the "Mother of all Diamonds." That might be of interest to you, too.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
I'm familiar with Duanes handling from the video he put out years ago. I'll look into the Mitchell routine as well. |

Sammy Smith also has a Headband Blendo effect. He explains it openly at http://www.spsmagic.com/site/templates/r......oneid=15
If this is the one, I believe you have permission to make one up.

Hi Scott -
Headband blendo is a totally different effect from the cheat blendo. Sure, many become one, as in any blendo. In Sammy's trick, he uses five elasticized headbands (the type worn by athletes, like tennis players). They become one large headband, with different coloured sections. Looks like a Hawaiian lei at the end. He uses a tennis ball can to do the switch. In David's trick, he uses bandanas. An alternative prop to the headbands would be silks. The result at the end is a large bandana, with four quadrants. Each quadrant is a different colour bandana (or silk). You start off the effect by showing each of the four original bandanas (or silks) as seperate. No change bag is used. - Donald
