I do the egg in bottle as an effect in my "Magic Laboratory". I set it up as a fire extinguisher demo, and I use the egg to cut off the oxygen. Then I am shocked as the egg slides into the mouth of the bottle.

Excellent idea! to use it as a fire extinguisher routine first. Do you then egg-splain the trick? (Sorry I will go and reprimand my self for that egg-strodinarily bad yoke - quick shut me up before I make a real mess of this and get yoke all over my face).
................ I really must apologise for that I don’t what came over me. |

"I guess is got it for $5.00 since it came with the Steranko edition on card magic.
Someone ought to buy the rights to this volume and print it as a book. Reset the type to a larger point, maybe enhance and/or reshoot the photos, etc. It is one of the best general books on escapes written." _______________________________________________________________________ >>>Harry's reference to the "Steranko card magic issue" - is Nov. 1962, in case you didn't know. >>>Steranko DID have plans in the 1980's to release a revised HARDCOVER edition of his 1964 Genii issue - it was to be titled: "Iron Puzzles". Full page ads for it were in his "Media Scene" tabloid magazine at the time. Unfortunately, it never was published. >>>From what I hear from those who have met Jim at comic conventions these days - he, like James Randi, have "moved-on" from their early "esacpe days" and prefer to talk about more current things in life. |

Moxahalla is right about moving on. I met Jim Steranko at a Comic Book convention in Washington, D.C. over a dozen years ago (no I'm not into comic books but heard he was going to be there and went just to visit with him). He was not interested in talking anything magic. It was jazz and graphic arts only for him at that time. I did get a snapshot of us standing together. Lucky for me I could talk a little jazz!
Shestack, the worth of your copy is in what the market will bear OR in the value you decide to put on it. I suspect that if you listed here on the Café' you might get $100.00. Café' members only want bargains. To a collector within the very small escape community you might get the price that started this thread. The free market is funny that way.

Just sold a copy of the Steranko "World of Escapes" issue published by Genii Magazine in 1964 for $1,200.00 USD - Mint Condition....and Autographed ("Best wishes - Steranko")
Not even on eBay... WOW! Which is really nice to see what a collectible should go for these days, considering it's 40+ yrs old. One of the BEST volumes on the ART of Escapes in the last 40 years, PERIOD! Shestack |

Is this the same Steranko who used to draw for Marvel Comics? I wonder what his old COMIC BOOKS are worth! I have a lot of those.

I own one - and a half - copies. Don't ask.
However if anyone's interested - the Joe Fox DVD on opening cuffs - its getting closer to the front burner. (shameless plug) Wait till to you see the man cracking handcuffs so fast you'll think the DVD is running double time, but it's not. This could end up being a classic in it's own right.

Hard boiled egg into bottle with the help of fire... eh? Dave
Soaked in white vinegar too, I imagine. Now if someone can figure out a way to use that principle to escape from something... That would be good.

Iron Puzzles - my brother ordered an advance copy and never received the book or a refund. I tracked Jim down years later and he offered a refund but said he still planned to publish it eventually. Still no book and still no refund - my brother said he would wait. Jim if your out there my brother would now be happy for the refund. I no longer have an active email for him "Steranko." I am afraid my brother may be out the bucks.

I have one of the Genii 1964 Steranko Escapes issues in my files. I wouldn't part with it for the sums that have been mentioned in this thread. Some of the escape concepts are just unbelievable, and the Steranko drawings are superior to anything I've ever seen connected with magic or escapes.
I have performed two of the unusual escapes from that issue. The Steranko Star, and the rope tie utilizing the wooden pedestal. The last I heard the Steranko Star which I had made for me was at Gary Darwin's home in Vegas. It belongs to Lisa Close (Michael Close' wife) and Mike and Lisa left it with Gary when they left Vegas to move to Canada. It is for sale, if anyone's interested. You should contact Mike and Lisa (contact info is in every issue of MUM magazine), or possibly Gary Darwin. Dennis Loomis
