Hello,
I was wondering if there are people here who have managed to modify presto printo by Daryl in such a way so that it's suitable for walkaround, meaning: no reset or very little reset, no table needed, etc? Kinda like tommy wonders beautiful wild card routine. Probably some of the cards need to be eliminated. Just curious! Simon |

Try his cardboard chameleons. Very difficult routine to do well but it resets instantly. Cheers,

I have used Daryl's handling of Duvivier's Printing since he first released it. I have made my own personal changes to the routine, but the basic configuration is the same. I am able to do it for walk around, because I know where the cards are laid after each "printing". Reset happens as I pick up the cards to put them away. I don't have to search for the next one in sequence as I restack them. It looks haphazard, but isn't.
I never favored Presto Printo because the same card is being forced each time. I prefer to keep that fact widely separated from discovery. This was one of Tommy Wonder's concerns with Wild Card, which obviously led him to the "recycling" aspect of his handling. The main difference betwen Wild Card, and Presto Printo is that the former changes the suit/value of the card, where the later changes the physical characteristics of the card, while retaining the original suit/value. That presents an inherent problem, that hampers the "full circle recycling". One possible idea would be to perform Presto Printo, but with fewer phases (fewer cards). Make several different sets, each with a different suit/value. This would allow you to perform the trick several times in succession, avoid the "same card" plague, and minimize the reset time when it is needed, through the use of fewer cards per packet. For the standard routine, in which the cards are in a display layout, I'm not sure how that many cards could be managed without a table, especially when you are basically dealing with only one or two cards at a time through the routine. A book or small tray could be held by someone if you wanted to keep the layout display of the cards, but I think it may be possible to have someone hold the packet after the initial display. Each next phase comes from the top of the packet and goes to the bottom when completed. Work each phase directly over the top of their hand, and that should prevent them from yeilding to the curiosity to check the packet. Once you're done, it won't matter. The end product is too complex to be easily deciphered. I don't have a set of the cards to work it out, but I think a few simple displacements would very quickly reset the trick when the whole routine is done. ~michael

For walk around, Daryl endorses Tom Dobrowolski's In the Hands Wild Card. It's in their hands. More here: http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/in-the-han......730.html
“I've always felt that 'Wild Card' was one of the greatest visual card tricks of all time. My good friend Tom Dobrowolski has made a great contribution to the magical fraternity by creating and sharing his special version that can be performed without the need for a table. I look forward to adding Tom's beautiful routine to my strolling repertoire.” - Daryl the Magicians Magician

I have used Presto Printo many times walking around for one main reason, It's an great effect! I like what Mr. Baker said above as he just knows how to pick up the cards and puts them back in his pocket and then he is all set. How I particularly do this effect is I have two sets of the Presto cards. I have a 10 of spades and the 9 of clubs. During the night at the restaurant I will go back to my case every half and hour to forty five min to swap out and grab a drink. This is a prime time to prep anything that may have gotten jumbled from that set. But all in all that's a great trick and I have always gotten great responses from children and parents.

There is an easy way to perform this in the hands and without a table. Start with the last card you want to print on top face down, followed by the second to the last, etc. Put the DB on the bottom. Force the card. Have the spectator hold it. Bring out the packet Flustration Count the cards into your left hand. After showing the last card on both sides, put the last card into your pocket. Say we may need this later. Take the card from the spectator and hold it in your right hand. Push off the top card of the packet placing it on top of the card in your right hand, For example, the first card your printing is the back of the card. Hold the 10 of spades face down in your right hand and drop the first onto the card in your right hand. At the same time use your left forefinger to push the cards in your left hand back slightly so you can grap hold of two cards between your index finger and thumb of both hands, you then peel the cards apart by regripping the two cards with your thumb on top of the side of the cards, your index fingers on sides and your middle fingers on bottom side showing the back of the card has printed, hand that card which will be in your right hand and out for examination. Taking the 10 of spades back into the right hand and repeat the process with the remaining cards, holding them as needed and handing them out each time. Take back the cards (face up)in the order you need them in again, as Michael mention and then place the DB on top flipping the cards over and put them away. You are now reset to do the trick again.
If you want a better display at the beginning. I would recommend the opening sequence of Steve Hamilton's In The Hands Wild Card. |

Great trick, and I agree, just pick them up the right way and it is reset.
