Hey everyone,
My mom told me that our local PBS affiliate was looking for stories about WWII vets with Ken Burns documentary coming out. So the next time we caught it, I sent in a short email just an overview about his service. Drafted as a non-US citizen to serve the US Army. Anyway, I got an email Friday saying the story was published, except I couldn't find it! I sent an email out ASAP and got a link to it this morning. Its the second story submitted so far. Check it out here: Actual Link: http://www.wttw.com/share_story.html?pag......mp;ext=0 List of stories: http://www.wttw.com/share_story.html?page=1 ENJOY!

Wow! That is definitely a young picture of your dad. Long admired him and the more I know the more I admire him. I heard of him from Uncle Harry long before I ever saw him. Those who worked the Blackstone show were all a part of a huge family and I really think Uncle Harry thought of every one of them as his family. It was the appearances on BOZO that allowed me to first see him perform. Master magicians who learned their trade the way he did are far and few inbetween now. Thanks for posting it.

Congratulations, Frances, and kudos to your father. Please thank him personally for me for serving this country. I'm glad he finally got his medals.
The last book my father wrote before he died was about the railroad's significance in WWII. I helped him find photos at the Library of Congress to include in the chapter about their role in relocating people to the Japanese internment camps. He was really surprised and moved by his research, as it wasn't widely known at that time that this was done.

Photius, thank you.
We are fortunate that dad kept all his WWII stuff. Appearatnly most WWII vets did not keep their discharge papers and such. Which would make it difficult to prove their service. Luckily my dad also had a scrap book of photos he had of himself from being the service...and yes my papa was a good looking 18 yo. Luckily for us he became a US citizen, or else who knows where'd I be! Airship, thank you as well... I've heard you mention about your father book. I find that interesting. I do not know if Ken Burns touched on Asian's fighting during WWII or not. I saw this interesting documentary on Chinese in the heartland of California. It says that 20% of the draftees who fought in WWII were Asian's. But I'm guessing the 19% of them were 2nd generation US citizens. Not like my father. Have you ever seen the documentary or read the book "The Rape of Nanking"? If you think about it, 1937 would have been the start of WWII when Japan invaded China. Many of the Asian's from the US help fight with the US against japan. Its also based on the forgotten holocust and massacre in Nanking. Its a very difficult book to read, I didn't get to finish it but I bet the film is more difficult to watch. Luckily, my father came over from China in 1937 before the invasion.
