Did a search for the EM Pocket Charger thread, but had no luck. Anyone know where I could find it?
Thanks, Jess |

I have one and it works fine for me. Perhaps a bit overpriced, but worth it to me because it really enhances Penomenon.

I got one and was EXTREMELY disappointed. IMO, it is significantly overpriced with poor instructions, and mine doesn't work at ALL--my shirt sleeve works substantially better. Not recommended.

I can only agree with the fact that the EM charger does seem overpriced, especially when the advertising blurb says that you can make the pen spin around like a spinning top... which is plainly ridiculous.

Actually, it does work like that for me. I use my watch crystal as a frictionless surface to set the pen on. My watch has an expandable band (not a strap), I place it on a table or flat surface, crystal side up, and the band holds the crystal a couple of inches above table. I then pull the pen out of my pocket and balance it (with the cap on) on the watch crystal.
I then make the pen rotate slowly half way around, then slowly back the other way using the finger of my other hand, then switch directions and fingers again, making the pen rotate faster and faster until after spinning around many times it finally spins off the watch crystal onto the table. I then pick up the pen, hand it to a spectator for inspection and invite them to give it a try. Always gets great reactions!! I just did a "test run" as described above and the pen made 9 complete rotations before spinning off of my watch crystal. Bill Beach |

I couldn't get the pocket charger to work at all. This has to be the biggest con ever in magic. I feel paying about $50 for the trick + Pocket charger is shocking. What do you have at the end of it? - a biro.
I think that's enough faces to display my disgust at this product. |

TIP:
How to animate a pen very easy: I use my Ultimate Float Controller to make a pen move very magically on flat surface. Sometimes I put the pen in a glass and back several feet away and then make the pen move inside the glass. Looks like real magic powers Works everytime. |

I don't know why it's not working for you guys, unless it's "atmospheric conditions".
In my part of the world, without using the pocket charger, it works better in winter than in the humid summertime. But using the charger, I still get pretty good action even in summertime, especially in an air-conditioned enviroment. Bill Beach |

I have talked with a lot of folks about this item all over the world. MANY more of them say it doesn't work than those who say it does. Further, I bought this item, along with Penomenon, in good faith, at full retail--$50 + shipping.
The EXACT effect is in Tarbell 7! The ONLY difference is that in Tarbell, a drinking straw is used instead of a pen--which I actually prefer, particularly in restaurant conditions. Nowhere in the ad copy or my inquiries to the dealer was this mentioned. I already KNEW this method, as did anyone familiar with the routine in Tarbell. So for my first $25, I got a 25 CENT pen and one page of poorly-written, vague instrcutions. For my 2nd $25, I got a funky-looking thing that's a pain to set up, takes up pocket space, and flat out doesn't work for a LOT of people (possibly due to manufacturing defects or a range in the quality of materials, which is still not acceptable). $50 for a trick that doesn't work, that is in one of the most-used and most-available references, uncredited, accompanied by low-quality instructions on both counts. Sorry, it still makes my "dud" list.

This is the way they have fooled the magicians.
Let me explain....... We saw an ad of Penomenon with all the pen moving stuff. We bought the Penomenon and what happens ??? The trick does not work very well. Complains >> The pen does not get charged. So they brought EM pocket charger saying the pen will spin like a clock dial. Then we bought EM POCKET CHARGER NOW, some of you guys are saying that the EM pocket charger does not work ?? I won't be surprised if they brought out CM POCKET CHARGER to charge EM POCKET CHARGER. Did any of you guys understand all that or did I type Latin ?? |

Scott, I can understand why you feel ripped off. I, too, paid $50 + shipping for the combinaton; and, as I said in a previous post, feel it is overpriced. I wasn't trying to change your mind (or anybody else's). Just simply stating that in my experience, in the way that I use it, it works as it should.
By the way, I really enjoy reading your articles in Online-Visions! Bill Beach |

Thanks, Bill. You didn't offend me or upset me at all. I was merely re-stating the problems I have with this particular item. I appreciate you kind words about the Visions column.

I think EM Pocket Charger is a waste of money. I use my pants or my sleeve to do the charge and it works for me everytime.

The best thing that I've found, is if you can do it impromptu with plastic forks/spoons balanced on the top of pepper/salt holders...
Plastic forks, etc are just so light, they spin ridiculously well. |

I was once in a local magic shop back in S'pore and the magic demonstrator was showing some tricks. Upon request to do one trick again, he turned his back on us to reset...but it looked really...*iffy* if you get my drift, as he was setting up this card trick at waist level, but to us, from the back, it looks like he's doing something else
Anyway, that was understandable. But, I walked in again later that day and 'caught' him behind the counter, rapidly rubbing something down there and I just said to him, "Geez man..." and he smiled and walked out with a pen...and I said to myself, "Aaahh...Penomenon". All I'm saying is that, if there is a set up that looks pretty...*iffy*...I ain't touchin it All the best, Logan

Sorry guys like Bill I have had great success with the effect. I will state I never bought penomenon since I was familiar with the principal already. I did purchase the EM Pocket charger because I wanted a charging source that would be more reliable & it has been reliable for me 100% of the time. I do not understand the part about the set up as there is none other than removing it from the pocket & it only takes up the same space the pen is already occupying, actually the EMPC allows for instant access with no other set up other than returning the pen to the pocket. As far as value sure the materials are minimalistic but hey so are is invisible loops & thread & look what many pay for those things.

Thanks for chiming in, Tom. I was starting to feel a little lonely. I absolutely agree with what you said about the EMPC and I'm glad to hear you are having success with it as well.

It takes up more space than the pen alone. Unless it were air, it has to! Maybe not a lot more, but certainly more. Further, at least with mine, it is difficult to "load." I can get a lifetime supply of IT for a couple of bucks, so I don't see the analogy there.
Regardless, apparently a few people like them and they work. I have talked to/heard from about 50 different people who bought this, because I wanted to see if my problems were the exception rather than the rule. Counting you two guy, 19 said they like it and it works well. Of those 19, 7 still felt it was WAY overpriced and the instructions were poor. So, according to my research, here are the results from my market research with 50 people: Item works as promised yes: 19 no: 31 Item reasonably priced yes: 12 no: 38 So, by almost 2 to 1, it doesn't work right or even not all. And by over 3 to 1, it is way overpriced! I don't think many car companies, cell phone companies, etc, would stay in business for long if they had that kind of track record with customer satisfaction. It just seems to me that, for what they are charging (if you'll pardon the pun) they could have spent a bit more time and money into making these better quality and making sure every one of them works. It's not like I'm the only guy unhappy with this item. It's also not like I just got into magic yesterday and just can't figure it out. If you got one and it works and you're happy, I'm happy for you--I really am. I wish I were in your shoes with this item.
