Took me a minute to figure out what was going on in this. A hint would be to look at her. Then look at her shadow. Then look at her again. Notice anything?

? I just thought they did not do such a good job on the shadow. What's the illusion?

From what I understand it's only a .gif version of previous animation.

If you look at the spinning girl's silhouette, which way is she spinning. And her shadow?

Yes, I saw the mismatch for part of the revolution. Wondered what was the intent.

I almost thing that it isn't an illusion, just an animation to look like an optical illusion. But when I watch her shadow, it looks like it is spinning the opposite direction, then when I look at her she is spinning counter clockwise.

She is spinning both ways. Look long enough she changes direction. Femlins do that.

So is it actually an illusion or is it just part of the animation, cause that is a pretty big .gif?

With a little concentration you can make her spin in the direction of your choice.
I can make her spin just half a revolution in one direction and then the other.
It IS an optical illusion but one that you can control.

With no detail to the model (including a lack of perspective) it is impossible to tell which was she is rotating.

The shadow and odd bumping up and down just look like bad animation to me though. I don't see how these are related to the effect.

Still, it looks nice.

It's the animation. About 125 clockwise, then it reverses counterclockwise.

I have watched it at times, counting revolutions, and I never get the same number. Sometimes it's 51, or 21 or 32 ect. ect.

As I stated above, it is in your mind. You make her appear to revolve clockwise or counterclockwise. You can make her turn just 180 degree's if you give it a little practice.
Concentrate on the hips and just when you get a side view of her quickly look up a little at her arms and back down to her hips and visualize her going in the other direction and with a little practice and patience you will get control of her direction. I don't know how to really explain it to you but if you really stay with it you will eventualy get it.
Many people can't see the image appear in those pictures that were popular about 10 years ago where all you see is abstract patterns with colors and all of a sudden a 3D image appears out of no where. I have a collection of these and spent a lot of time practicing to be able to see the image in just a very few seconds. This optical illusion requires the same kind of patience and practice but once you get it you will go WOW! This is really cool.

As Lyndel points out, the left leg seems to be in the air and her front anatomy seems quite distinct so... how could she be spinning backwards?

I don't think its an illusion...because no matter how hard I concentrate, I cant make it change when I want it to. I think it actually changes. I could be wrong...but I can usually control the perspective on those types of illusions,and with this, I cant control it at all.

Yes, you can control it.

Do whay Joey said on the first post.
Watch her feet, then look at the shadow, then back to her feet.
If you do this when the foot is sideways you can get it to change.
