Another thing to consider is if the artist is doing the artwork in vector versus raster based formats. Raster formats rely on what we call DPI or dots Per Inch for effective resolutions. Raster files should be to finished size or larger and done in CMYK color made and at 300dpi resolution for maximum detail and quality. On raster based images, make sure you never enlarge the file. If you do so, you lose quality.
Vector formats are much different as vector based formats is a system where by all the artwork, lines, colors, etc. are all based upon mathematical equasions in the computer. Because of this, it is the ideal way to create logo artwork such as the sample I have shown above. Vector absed files can be scaled up or down to any size at all and it will always retain the same high qaulity every time. I almost always use vector formats for doing my realistic figure art and other logos I create for people. It works out much better for me and them and gives better freedom and control. Just some things to think about and discuss in advance with your artist or designer before you have anything done. I hope this information helps. Kyle

Yea. I got my poster caricature in .PSD format, with CMYK color. You hit the nail on the head as well...high def 300 DPI. In fact, that's the minimum PS Print will allow I think for posters.
Thanks for the great info on the realistic figure art! I might have to look into that as well...hmm. Best. Steve |

My pleasure Steve. Glad to be of help to you. It is always my intention to help as many folks out as I can. Since I do graphic design for a living, I felt sharing this information with others can save them a lot of hassle down the road.

magic4u02 is correct about bit mapped images and if our poster is .PSD that would be photoshop 300DPI bit map image, if you have access to adobe Illustrator you can use he live trace function to convert it to vector graphics. After converting my logo I have printed it on large plotters with it looking just as good as on smaller print or on the screen |

Hi Guys
Just my two cents worth - yes it seems that your friend has an ok likeness with the caricature and he hasn't exaggerated too much. He also charges a great price. But as a caricature artist myself (and in no way am I scouting for work here - in fact I don't do gift work anymore) the image is poor and I really think that this is your marketing image here and what people will remember you by - especially if you are printing this image on a poster. I really think you need to get something of a better quality. A good caricature or illustration image can last you for a few years and be an integral part of your marketing. One good resource is http://www.caricature.org where you can browse artists from across the globe or maybe your friend can do a better picture if more money is paid. |

Hi,
It still seems odd to me for performers to offer an apparent professional service with promotional work that looks like its been done in 10 minutes by some kids in kindergarden. It is so important if you are or aspire to be a working professional to get good promo stuff. Whether you get Monster Creations, another designer or yourself to design your promo material you owe it to yourself to try and make the best efforts possible to get good professional results. In the grand scheme of things it really isn't that expensive. If I was booking a magician and he was only charging $25 an hour I would be wondering why he was so cheap.... If you pay peanuts you tend to get monkeys. Ade Monster Creations |

Witty,
You in the NCN? We may have run into each other in Orlando or Vegas past conventions. My wife (Angie Jordan) was the one with the Cintiq. You going to Reno this year? Scott |

Hi Scott
Yes I am in the NCN - but live in Australia, so it's a bit of a pain to attend (also due to the fact that the end of the year is the busiest for me work wise). But I hope to get their one day! Just checked out reelsinmotion.com VERY IMPRESSIVE work! I just finished my promo video but some of those customised animations look fantastic! All the best to yourself and Angie (who I've seen on the caricature.org site). Brad |

That's nice Chris!
It's just that (no offense) in the caricature, your face looks a little 'weird'. I don't know how to put it... It looks like you have bags around and under your eyes. But other than that, I like it! -Vinnie |
