I had mine a couple days ago here in the UK, along with my Talk about tricks DVD, but I have been so busy, I haven't had time to even look yet!!! Tonight I have a night off, so I have watched the first 2 DVDs, I will watch the other DVD soon and then onto the books, as I like books more, and spend more time with them, but the DVDs have incredible quality material on them! I think this year will have the hardest DVD of the year for some time now!

Just read half way through. Very good book with great effects you can perform at the bar.
It reminds me a little bit of Lifesavers by Michael Weber, where most of the tricks use everyday objects, are situational, and require a little prep. |

It has some, a handful, of routines simular to what is found in Life Savers but the majority is cards with some coins and is absolutely not in the same format as Life Savers.

Yea I agree. Session is written in an interesting way and the pictures and explanations are better than Lifesavers. Some of the effects do share a similar 'feel' to those in Lifesavers
I especially like how Joshua points out some of the 'weakness' or parts of the tricks that he didn't like, and Joel gets to defend himself. |

I've read about half of it. Really like it, both the writing style and the tricks. So far I'm most impressed by the non-card items. Can't wait to test them out.

This book is amazing. I know you're thinking "but Pete, why is this book amazing?" That's good, I'm here to tell you why. I live in Raleigh and have seen some Rare performances from Joel when he didn't know I was a magician. The stuff he does aren't "magician foolers." they are desgined to floor muggles. And I'll be ***ed if they don't floor them. Almost all of this book are routines that you would be happy to have in your close-up act, I know I would. They are tried and true and are tested routines that work. do yourself a favor and pick up the book. Joel has put a lot of work into these routines and is extremely talented and deserves the publicity this gives him. Best of luck to Joel and Have fun with the routines everyone.

I got the books last week and have read them over and over again from cover to cover. Its so extremly well written you have to read it over again to see if you have missed something. Both Josh and Joel has to be congratulated for this project, and Ben Harris for the books design.
A worthy representant for this year Best Magic Book of 2007, which I and Chrisopher Williams will be running later this year. As it is right now we will start it by the 1st of of october, and end it by the end of december.

So far, Session (along with "Five Forty Seven"), Best of Friends III, The Magician's LTD Cookbook, and WD40 are at the top of my list for 2007. This is going to be a tough choice (and the year is only half over [!!] ...).

For those of us who don't have access to a machinist, any recommendations for where to buy the karate coin set needed for "Joeljitsu"?

Hello all,
Just a word of advice on the Ninja coin effect you're talking about. Let me re-emphasize, as I do in the book, that you MUST have the hole PUNCHED, not drilled. This is opposite of the way most karate coin style gaffs are made. Normally, you WANT the hole to look like it has a defined "entry" and "exit," but here Joel is using it in conjunction with a shell, and it must fit FLAT so you can manipulate the shell/coin gimmick as one object. Second, there are tricks that read well and tricks that don't. This is an example of a trick you must SEE to appreciate. Up close, it really looks like the coin is made of clay, the way his finger melts right through. Big thanks to Mike Gallo for inspiring Joel in this effect. We filmed it on the Talk about Tricks DVD, but it STILL doesn't look as good there as it does live. That's just the way it is, I think, with some tricks. Best of luck to those of you who make up the gaff. J |

Actually I have been thinking about taking contact with Jimi, and ask him if has the possibilities to PUNCH a hole in one coin. I really like this effect, so I will be intrested in one set myself if, and when, it evenyually comes out.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for responding. Yeah, I did remember that the hole had to be punched. Most of the commercial versions are done the other way. I noticed that Todd Lassen makes one that's punched, but on the site the hole is weirdly off-center. But maybe a bunch of us could make orders to Jamie or Todd and have a group of sets made. Scott |
