I was not sure where to put this post... I thought this was as good as any. Anyway, I will be visiting NYC this weekend and would greatly appreciate any places to go that involve magic... stores, shows, whatever. Thanks in advance.

Hey Chad,

The pizza joint and Maui Tacos are on Saturday only, and usually start around 2:00 or a little after. They are both very close to Fantasma as well as Tannen's, and the guys ther will can direct you where to go.

Best,

John

Yep...check in at Tannens Magic Shop. They will be able to point you in the right direction and let you know about everything magical in "the big apple." Here is a link to their site. They also have a tab online for magic in New York that will be helpful. http://www.tannens.com/

One thing you might enjoy is the Steve Cohen "Chamber Magic" show held at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel each Friday night at 7PM and again at 9PM. Each show is limited to only 40 seats.

There are a LOT of other shows you can attend and magic is everywhere up there.

Have a GREAT time!

Mark.

Hokey Smokey has no one recommended Monday Night Magic the weekly stage show in the theater district of midtown Manhattan. If you tell Michael Chaut the manager after the show that you are a magician he will invite you to eat with the performers. My wife, and I were there in May, and we ate with Steve Martin after the show, who is a big magic fan, and was in the audience that night.

I can't believe people are actually recommending Tannen's, which in MHO would be a very disappointing experience, Fantasma is across the street form Tannens, and they will wait on you with a smile instead of giving you a dirty look.

Little Italy is on Mullberry Street, China town is on Canal Street, the 1/2 priced ticket outlet for Broadway shows is at 46th & Broadway. The Stardust Diner at 51st & Broadway will give you the most unforgetable dining experience you have ever had with your late night snacks.

My wife and I call NYC Disney World for adults. Get a subway map because a 24 hour subway pass is only $7, and wear good shoes, because NYC is a walking town.

I may be missing something...but as I recall, Fantasma is located across the street from Penn Station and the Hotel Pennsylvania. It's up above the Sbarro eatery. And if you go inside...you're as likely to see David Roth behind the counter as anyone else.

Wow.
Cheers,
Steve

Tannen's is on 34th St. between 5th and 6th Aves. Fantasma is on 7th Ave. at the corner of 33rd. St. So yes, they are several blocks apart. Certainly within walking distance from each other, but definitely NOT across the street.

I'm not sure when the last time was that you went to Tannen's, but no one there is unfriendly -- quite the opposite, in fact. I have never gotten a dirty look from anyone there, and I have never seen them give a dirty look to anyone else.

The folks at Fantasma are also good.

The pizza place is called Café Rustico II, and can be found on 35th St., right around the block from Tannen's. Maui Taco, which I rarely go to, is on 5th Ave. between 32nd and 33rd (about a block south of the Empire State Building).

OK I have checked with several New York city magicians, and it seems that this Pizza place is quite a happening spot. If you go to Tannen's you will see for yourself that it is not a happening spot.
