This is a new book. Has anyone had a chance to read it so they can give a review?
Much appreciated. Here's the link: http://www.keithfields.co.uk/keith%20fields_006.htm Thanks Peculiarone |

No Keith I have'nt. Sorry could'nt resist it!
It seems [from the link you gave] that Michael Close gives the book a good review so it seems to be more then a list of heckler stoppers which is a good thing. ''Hey I don't come to where you work and tell you how to cook fries'' -Splat!..As the entertainer get's punched!
''In memory of a once fluid man, crammed and distorted by the classical mess'' -Bruce Lee

That should be interesting from an English perspective.
Heckler "my good man, your magic does not quite intrique me, not up to snuff if I do say so, I shall be reporting this to Queen and The Inner Circle" Magician Heckler Zinger: "I thank you for your commentary sir, whilst I, and I believe the majority of the guest here this evening, do not agree with your assertation please feel free to notify the Queen and Inner Circle...and may the Thames flood your black powder" |

I don't have it, but I'm a bit put off by "WITH OVER 200 PUT-DOWNS!" on the cover... But Mike Close seems to indicate that there is much more than that...

Are there any reviews for this book yet? I would love to find out more about it.

I agree with Seth that the emphasis on put-downs bespeaks something of a disrespectful approach. But then so does heckling. At the risk of offending both Seth and myself, when an especially virulent heckler makes his voice heard at a show of mine, I reply with: "Sir [They're always men.], I do my act the way you do sex: alone."
Not proud of myself, but chuckling nonetheless, Alan |

How you handle hecklers really depends on your performing persona. Gazzo is fairly rough on them, as he is even with non-hecklers. But that's his performing persona. If you're a "nice guy" type, using Gazzo lines will really break character. I don't think there's a "one size fits all" solution. I depends on who you are.
Just a thought. Mike

I have to agree with mike. Ones behaviour and comments should be congruent with their character.
A happy smiling magician suddenly whipping out a rough line is very jarring and will totally change the magicial mood you are trying to set. You will do more damage the performance and audience enjoyment than a heckler could ever do. MAC |

From my experience of an "obnoxious" individual in the audience, I found that the best technique was to "freeze". Stop your act, look at the individual and say, "let me know when I may continue?". If you are a good performer the audience will tell him to shut up.
